All werewolves should be identified to the Ministry of Magic, and placed upon the Registry.

Distinguishing Features:
Physical- Shorter snout, human-like eyes, tufted tail, enlarged canine teeth, may appear scarred.

Life Expectancy - the average life expectancy is 25 years. It is unusual for the beast to live beyond this as it will eventually tear itself apart before then. It is thought that Wolfsbane potion will extend this to approximately 50 years.

A werewolf, also known as a lycanthrope, is a monster which may occasionally resemble a human. DO NOT BE MISTAKEN. Upon the complete rise of the full moon, they reveal themselves to be an uncontrollable, bloodthirsty, fearsome and lethal killers.

The most prominent difference between a true wolf and a werewolf, beside appearance, is in behaviour. Werewolves are savages that will only attack humans, unprovoked.  They only respond to the call of their own kind.

A werewolf will lose any humanity it had left, once transformed. The creature would no longer remember who they are and become very aggressive. Werewolves are regularly known to kill their best friends or loved ones while in wolf form if given the opportunity. Despite this, they are often unable to recall everything they had experienced throughout their transformation upon reverting to their human like state, though few do keep their memories. The transformation to monster may leave them quite exhausted or riddled with pain for a few days prior to and post full moon. Although this is not to say they are at their most vulnerable, they instead have often displayed increased strength and have higher sensitivity to smell and sound.

The disease is caused by an incurable infection of lycanthropy. For the infection to spread, one must be bitten by a werewolf in their wolfish form at the time of the full moon. When the Beast's saliva mingles with its victim's blood, contamination will occur.

Should a person become infected, a mixture of powdered silver and dittany applied to a fresh werewolf bite would seal the wound and allow the infected to live on as a werewolf, although many bite victims have been witnessed begging for death rather than becoming such monsters!

The Wolfsbane Potion, invented by Damocles Belby, allows werewolf drinkers to keep their human mind during transformation. Though this potion is extremely difficult to brew, and contains expensive ingredients.

IMPORTANT
Anyone found brewing the Wolfsbane Potion for an unregistered werewolf will be prosecuted as the act of aiding and abetting an unregistered individual is highly illegal.
