"Brother are you paying attention to what I'm saying?" Eunseong asked her brother, unable to hide her disappointed face when she realized he hadn't been listening to her again. "What's in your head today?"
Hwanwoong blinked twice, trying to focus on the ribbons her sister was showing him. He had come all the way to town in order to help his sisters find the perfect accessories. They wanted to look at their best for their imminent hunting trip at Netherfield Park. Hwanwoong had always been happy to go out with the ladies of the house but, since Seoho and him had returned home, he hadn't been able to stop thinking about Mr Kim and the warmth of his hand on his own, and the fact he really had taken his bare hand to help him on his carriage the way he had. Like Mr Keonhee and Seoho. Like two people who were practically courting each other while Mr Youngjo and Hwanwoong's relationship had been quite the opposite. He didn't like the gentleman at all, that was most probably the reason why that moment was stuck in Hwanwoong's head, but he was still shocked because of the other's unexpected move.
Seoho and Mr Keonhee had been exchanging many letters since they had spent that time at Netherfield Park and that was how they had arranged their hunting trip as they had been thinking about for a while. Hwanwoong was so happy the gentleman really seemed to enjoy his brother's company in more than a friendly way because Seoho's smile when he was in Mr Keonhee's company was the brightest ever. Both of them seemed to be excited to hunt together and Hwanwoong would have been even happier to tag along, if only the thought of seeing Mr Kim again didn't bother him so much.
"What about this one, Brother?" Seyoung asked from behind, shaking him from his thoughts again.
When Hwanwoong turned around, he saw his dear sister proudly showing a colourful ribbon to him.
"Seyoung! I was talking to him first!" Eunseong reminded her sister with a rather annoyed voice tone.
Hwanwoong laughed: "Sisters, enough... I'm here to help you to avoid these kinds of situations too!" He took Seyoung's ribbon in between his fingers and he gasped at his softness. "Young, this fabric feels amazing and the colour is lovely. I can buy this one for you if you want!" He smiled when his sister jumped out of happiness. "Seong, I was listening to you, if you really want to keep up with your studies instead of spending your time searching for a man to marry, you should speak to Mother about it then." He put a hand on her shoulder to show his support. "I'm sure your arguments in favour will be so undeniable she will be unable to say no. It's your will, and I believe in you, Seong."
Seyoung was about to shily say something back at him when Sujin's bubbly voice made everyone turn around towards the entrance of the shop they were in: she was animatedly talking to a tall, handsome officer, judging by his bright red and white uniform, whose charming smile was entirely dedicated to the youngest of the Yeo's family. Hwanwoong walked closer to them, hoping his sister really hadn't taken advantage of his moments of distraction to start a conversation with a complete stranger.
"Oh, Mr Yonghoon, this is my brother Hwanwoong!" Sujin cheerfully introduced the officer to him. "He's a lieutenant and he was so kind to pick my handkerchief when I accidentally dropped it!"
They bowed at each other as Seyoung and Eunseong gathered closer to greet the officer as well.
"Did he help you find the ribbons for tomorrow's hunting trip?" Seyoung asked her sister.
Sujin smiled, showing off her brand-new white ribbons to the other ladies: "Oh, yes! He helped me choose and he bought them to me as well! Look at how beautiful they are!!"
