getting there

The plane ride was okay. it was booked for first class, and in any other situation, I'd say it was amazing. But it's not, and I'm still a little bummed about the whole moving thing. But as my mom says, Live life through the waves, or whatever. I'm going to try and have as much fun as possible while I'm living alone, like any normal teenager, and mom just gave me money for a whole new summer wardrobe.

The plane lands and I make my way over to the baggage claim and over to the bus and buggy station to ride the rest of the way to the meetup point with Kie and Sarah. I text them both and only Sarah texts back. I don't take it personally though, kie and I haven't been as close lately. well, even as close as you could be as pen pals and people who haven't even seen each other's faces in years. anyway, I make my way off the bus and walk over to the tree. I wait around ten minutes before I seriously debate calling someone, seeing as Sarah hasn't checked in and Kie left me on read.

"Aurora!" I hear yelling and turn around. I get tackled by a blond running towards me, and I nearly fall to the ground. "Sarah!" I giggle as we get off the floor. I may not have seen her for a while, but I know that voice anywhere. speaking of looks, she is STUNNING. I guess we've both grown up. The few pictures we've sent back and forth don't do this girl justice, and I guess we both were thinking the same thing cause we both start gushing about how good each other looks at the same time.

"Babe, you've seen her can we go home now?"That's when I looked over to see a pale, tall guy a little bit behind her. I remember him from one of the pictures. I think his name was Toppher or Tommy or- "Topper! Be nice, she lives here now and I'm going to show her around." Topper. Right. he looks like he has an attitude.

He scoffs and glances over at me. "Is she a kook or a pouge? Cause I'm not about to be seen with a page." My smile starts wavering and any excitement I felt upon arrival is going out. I do not want to tour the island with him in tow. "That's alright, Sarah," I say, "I know where my house is..." I look Tommy in the eye, "y'know, on your side of the island." And I pick up my carry-on and start walking. the good thing is I do know where I'm going, so lucky me, I can walk to my new house. But before I do-

"Hey, Sarah!" I yell, gaining her attention. She turns from where she was scolding topper, and focuses on me. "Yeah?" she yells back, walking a little bit toward me. "Kie hasn't answered my texts and was supposed to be here, what's up with her?" Sarah scoffs a little, and tilts her head. "You didn't know? Shes too busy hanging about with her pouge friends." Oh. so she was just too busy.

"'Kay, Thanks!" I say. I don't want to seem disappointed, so I just keep walking. i soon end up at the door to my new home and I pull out my key and trudge inside. the first thing I see is how much of this place reminds me of my mom. eccentric furniture and lamps lign the walls, and fun colors are everywhere. Mom had said she wanted it to feel fun when I walked in and went ahead and decorated for me. but one thing about her is she loves to mix and match rooms so each has a different look. one room can look straight out of a futuristic movie, while another could look like someone watches too much 'Mama Mia'. (Is there such a thing?)

I set my bags in the biggest bedroom and started to look around. on the fridge held up by a magnet, is the community Instagram, which has schedules for events and other things, the trash and recycling day schedule, and a little note from Mom herself right under it.

' Hello, love. I know this is probably new and weird for you, so I've gone ahead and tried to make it as easy a transition as possible. Right now there is no school, but I already have your transcript sent in and everything is settled there...

I read on until I find something that stands out.

'... I have left you some drinks that you can enjoy with friends as long as you keep it in the house. against your grandmother's judgment, I think it would be a nice way to help you strengthen friendships, and I know teenagers. just all I ask is that you be careful, and I'm not just talking about the alcohol. just know that I love you and we'll get through this.

Honestly, I'm just glad to hear from her. leading up to the move, she kind of shut down. well, time to look around I guess. maybe look for a job, and see if anyone might know if any parties are happening soon. just then I got a text and looked at my phone, it's sarah.

Sarah<3:

Hey! just letting you know me and a couple friends are heading to the beach to hang out and I would love if you came! they all go off on their own and sometimes I'm left out a little, and would love it if we could catch up.

You:

For sure! just tell me where and what time and I'll be there, I'm bored anyway.

Sarah<3:

Yay! we're meeting up in about half an hour over by that spot on the beach with the food stands and surf shops!

You:

Ohhhhhh, ik where that is. okay yeah ill be there.

Sarah<3 hearted your message!

while I'm about to drop the notes on the counter, another note pops out, it says,

' Look in the garage

I walk out to the garage, and a car is waiting for me in there. It's very nice, and a shiny black that could've blinded someone in the light. but this car looks familiar. i walk to the front and sure enough, it reads BRONCO. i just about passed out. I'm not someone who's into expensive cars, but a Bronco? that's a whole different story. no time to focus on that I need to get ready.
