Ethan and Accalia held their breath as the footsteps stopped. Why had the killer stopped?
Maybe it's local P.D. and someone saw us come in the house?
"Why didn't they announce themselves?" Ethan thought.
Perhaps they said it quietly?
Ethan mentally rolled his eyes at Cain.
Accalia then began to move silently back to the stares; Ethan was right on her heels. The footsteps started up again and sounded as if headed to the staircase for the second floor, then stopped abruptly when Accalia accidentally hit the basement door and it whined. Ethan snatched it making the door silent. Both were frozen, not making any sound and waiting for anything to happen.
"Bayford P.D! Anyone here? Come out with your hands up!"
Panic hit Accalia's face and Ethan gritted his teeth. This was bad, no matter how one looked at it. Ethan whispered to Accalia that he would be the one to go upstairs and turn himself in. He would try and buy some time so that she could go and get Selene and run.
"Anyone here?" The Officer called out.
'Stay here' Ethan mouthed to Accalia and ascended the stairs with his hands up. Accalia moved herself back behind the corner just in case the officer decided to peek down the stairs. She figured the officer wouldn't investigate too much since it sounded like there was only one officer in the house. Yet, there was something off about this guy.
As Ethan made his way to the top of the stairs and turned towards the kitchen, a light blared over his figure. Ethan put a hand out trying to block the light and see the officer in front of him but it was no use. The officer stepped closer.
"Are there more of you in the house or is it just you?"
"Just me." Ethan lied.
"That's good."
Ethan didn't like how that came out, far too calm and malevolent.
"Mommy?" Selene had woken up at the worst time.
"Oh? There's seems to be another one here in my house?"
Ethan didn't hesitate mouthing towards the staircase. There came a rapid PFFT, PFFT, PFFT behind him and bits of wood or stone pelted him as bullets missed Ethan. The guy had a silencer on his gun but in the darkness, he could hit anything. Racing up the stairs and darting left down the open hallway, bullets were all over the place. Still nothing hit Ethan.
Selene pulled open the door to see what the commotion was but was immediately tackled by Ethan as a barrage of bullets whizzed by. There was silence, then the dropping of a magazine to the floor echoed through the house.
"Are you okay? Are you hit anywhere?" Ethan asked, as he tried to examine Selene and move her back into the room and into a more protected area.
Selene shook her head and tucked herself into Ethan for protection, whimpering. The next sound was another magazine being slid back into the gun.
"I wasn't expecting guests this evening." The man called out. "Did you see the others?"
He waited for a response supposedly for Ethan to answer but he didn't. He began to send his tentacles out to attack the man but stopped when there came a nasty snarl. Ethan told Selene to stay here and not to come out until either himself or her mom calls for her. Selene got under the bed. Ethan got to the doorway just into to see the man turn around stand face to face with a ten-foot white werewolf with red-fiery eyes and fire flickering out of her mouth.
