THE SUBJECT OF TODAY'S LESSON IN MR. MATTHEWS CLASS WAS Edgar Allen Poe and lies.

Brynn had told many lies before, so she didn't know why she had to stop now.

"So, this guy chops somebody up, hides him in the floor. He's cool for a while, but all of a sudden, boom boom. Boom boom. Boom boom!" Mr. Matthews screeched, adding some fun into his class.

Brynn had a huge smile on her face. It was like an episode of Criminal Minds in the classroom, which she loved.

Of course, Mr. Matthews had to add the part that the booming was the guy's guilty conscience under the floorboards, telling him what he was doing was wrong.

"Are you serious! He gave himself up?" Brynn said, throwing her hands up in the air, feeling disappointed in the guy in the story.

Mr. Matthews nodded and explained that the point of the story was that the man's conscience was more powerful than he realized. He wanted the students to understand how strong their consciences were how and how they could strengthen them.

Brynn just laughed because she knew she was stronger than her conscience.

That night, Brynn and Lucas were sitting on the couch in their living room when the doorbell rang. Brynn got up and opened the door, and Zay was standing in front of her.

Zay quickly said hello to Brynn and said he needed to talk to Lucas. "Bro on bro stuff. I gotta talk to him alone."

Brynn shrugged, going into her room and shutting the door.

Of course, she was sitting next to the closed door to hear every word that they were going to say.

Lucas asked Zay what he wanted to say, and Zay said something that left Brynn shocked.

"I need your permission for something. I want to ask Brynn out again. Properly this time."

Brynn could imagine what Lucas' face looked like. He probably had his mouth open, and he was probably blinking a bunch of times in a row.

Lucas' response did not shock Brynn that much. "No. No way am I going to let you date her. You broke her heart last time, and I was the one who had to put all of her broken pieces together, and I don't think I put them back correctly because now she has bad eyesight!"

Zay was standing there, looking aghast. The only reason Brynn knew that was because she was looking through the crack of her door.

"What do you mean? I treated her right!"

Brynn's hand flew over her mouth. She heard Lucas gasp too in the living room. "You left her for Vanessa. Also, quick question, have you even cleared things up with Vanessa before asking me if you can date Brynn again?"

Brynn let her door open slightly so she could see was Zay was going to do after Lucas said that, and she wasn't surprised when he walked out of the front door.

"Well, that was fun for a minute! Can we keep watching whatever was on the TV now?" Brynn said, crawling out of her room and onto the couch where she was sitting before.

The next day in history class, everyone was acting normal.

Except for Riley, but when is she ever acting normal?

She kept asking about the guy that her dad was talking about from the other day. "Oh, the boom boom guy! Yeah, he went crazy."

"Of course he did." Brynn said louder than she intended. "He freaked out from a guilty conscience." Mr. Matthews said, sighing at Brynn.

Riley asked how to make your conscience stop making you feel guilty, then Mr. Matthews said, 'do do,' and it made Zay and Brynn start to laugh.
