Her prayer went unanswered. Makenna gave up sleeping. She was tired of waking every few hours covered in more sweat and tangled in the sheets.  The sun was slowly peeking it's way through the curtains , brightening the room little by little. She laid there half on the floor and half in the bed , her body twisted up within the thin satin and pillows scattered below on the midnight colored shaggy carpet.  She pressed her forehead into thick black threads and blew a raspberry.  Pushing off the ground with her hands , she carefully adjusted her body into a sitting position and leaned back against the bedframe.  Tossing the pillows back onto the messy bed , Makenna sluggishly stood up and ran her fingers through her shoulder length hair. The golden-brown strands fell in waves , the ends  brushing her bare shoulders. She craned her neck and stared at the bedroom door.  She knew the ghostly man was waiting for her on the other side. She felt it in her bones. Just as she predicted , the door swung open and he stepped through with his arms outstretched and a bright smile gracing his face.

"Rise and Shine , Sunshine." Reaching behind her , she grabbed a handful of silk cased pillows and threw them in his direction. "Someone is cranky this wonderful morning." He slapped each fluffy feathered encased pillow aside , his smile never fading. "Why won't you disappear ," She half-screeched and half whispered. Makenna was getting annoyed.  Just why in the world couldn't this crazy person leave her be.  Santiago crossed his arms , his eyes shifted from her towards the messy bed with it's disheveled  sheets and the obvious sweat stained imprint where she had previously laid.  "Trouble sleeping?" He asked.  She didn't bother answering him. Just pretend he's not there. She made her way over to  the closet and yanked a faded black long-sleeve off the metal hanger then searched through her wardrobe for a pair of pants.  " I know you can hear me." Makenna slipped a pair of  navy-blue  bell-bottoms over her waist and adjusted the  neon-blue bra she had picked out. Fixing it  underneath her shirt and adjusted the straps.  "Mak--" He was about to say something , but another voice interrupted him. "Kenna! You awake?"

Strutting her way into the bedroom dressed in the brightest yellow dress Makenna  had ever seen was her best friend of two years , Savannah. "You look like a walking highlighter." Makenna closed the closet doors and walked towards the open bathroom to brush her hair and teeth. "Is that a compliment or ?" Vanna asked , pursing her lips in thought.  Makenna leaned back and stared at her through the doorway. "Definitely not a compliment ," She said as she brushed her teeth. "Rude much , anyways , got any plans for today?" Savannah made her way through the room and plopped down on the end of the bed. She  laid her hands in her lap and watched Makenna finish getting ready. When her best friend didn't answer , she asked again.

"Well , Do you?" Vanna glanced around the room , diddling her fingers and humming about. She brushed a few loose auburn strands from her eyes and stretched out her legs , admiring the shiny jewels that decorated her three-inch heels.  Her eyes flickered back to the bathroom as Makenna made her way back into the room. "Not really , no." The woman replied as she grabbed a pair of socks from her dresser drawer. Springing to her feet , Savannah clasped her hands together and smiled. "Wonderful! Want to go to Maryann's with me?" Makenna zipped up her black  fringe boots and adjusted the strawberry red , sleeve-less cardigan.  "For what?" She walked back into the bathroom and looked over her appearance one last time.  Vanna popped up behind her and leaned against the door frame. "To look for single, handsome , red-flagged men."

Makenna pinched the bridge of her nose and twirled around to face the other woman. She laid her palms flat on the sink and leaned back  against the coolness of the marble . "Vanna , I love you. I really do , but , I am not in the mood to go window shopping for eye candy." Her best friend pouted and stood up straight , pulling her shoulders back and placed her petite hands on her hips . "Oh , yes you are."  Makenna turned to face the mirror . "What's the matter , little sister. Don't you want to go on a man hunt with your scrumptious looking  bestie?" Oh , for the love of all that's holy . She watched as brother's reflection appeared in the toothpaste stained mirror .
