Chapter Nine

Quickly I road over to the club struggling the keep the bike upright, as my body was growing weaker. Getting there seeing Bernie outside with his friends, who all turned towards me as I road up. Stopping not too far from them all but fall off the bike.
"Akari," Bernie spoke coming over to support me. "For the record this isn't how I want the first chance to go," I whispered leaning into him. "What the fuck happened?" He questioned as Pearl came over supporting my other side.
"I was shot on a job," I whispered. "SHOT!" He explained shooting me a look. "Just get me to a hospital please," I whispered struggling to keep my eyes open. "You two take her, I'll get the keys from the bike and get it somewhere safe," Ice spoke as Bernie loaded me into a car.
"Pearl you drive," Bernie stated getting in the back with me. Once we took off Bernie faced me with concern. "Where is it?" He questioned. "My left shoulder," I whispered.
Quickly he tugged my jacket off my arms, eyes landing on the wound. Ripping his bandana from his forehead pressing it to my wound over the bandages causing me to cry out. "Anyone ever tell you that you can't put a bandaid over a bullet wound," He spoke eyeing me.
Chuckling while groaning getting my eyes to open a bit more. "Don't make me laugh asshole," I spoke lightly hitting him. "Fuck, I have to tell the others," I whispered reaching for my phone. Reaching over Bernie pulled it from my pocket unlocking it. "Who do you need to call?" He questioned. "Masaki and Tetsu, once they know everyone will," I whispered.
Nodding he put the phone to his ear as my eyes started closing again. "Hey this is Bernie I'm with Akari she wanted me to call you, she showed up at the club shot after a job. We're taking her to a hospital now. I'll send the location when we get there," He spoke ending the call before making the next, saying the same thing.
"We're here," Pearl called over his shoulder. Quickly Bernie picked me up and carried me inside. "She was shot!" He yelled getting nurses attention. Feeling myself placed on a gurney and lights quickly passing me by as my eyes closed. Letting the painful darkness pull me away.

After a while I was waking up letting out a groan. "Akari?" Someone questioned grabbing my hand. Opening my eyes starring into space as they slowly focused. Looking to my left seeing Bernie sitting there holding my hand.
   "Bernie?" I whispered causing him to smile. "I'm right here," He spoke holding my hand tighter. Looking around the room seeing no one else causing me to from slightly.
   "Cobra and Yamato are in the waiting room. Tetsu, Chiharu, and Dan went to pick up food. Masaki and Yamato are waiting outside. The rest of my friends went home, told me to call them when you wake up," He spoke as if reading my mind.
    "Can you get my brothers please?" I questioned softly. "Yeah and the doctor. Also the money you had in your pocket I'm holding it for you," He spoke before leaving the room. Sighing I laid there letting myself wake up a bit more, before deciding I wanted to sit up.
    Struggling to do so I gave a huff before trying again. Feeling a hand on my back causing me to look over seeing Bernie. Carefully he helped me sit up while the doctor stood at the foot of my bed.
    "How are you feeling?" He questioned. "Sore," I stated simply. "The wound wasn't too bad but you did lose a decent amount of blood. The man next to you gave some of his. You are lucky it could've been worse. Make sure you rest plenty and take it easy. You can go home in four days," He spoke before leaving.
   Before I could thank Bernie the sounds of boots stomping the ground came from outside. "Akari!" Multiple voices called running into the room.  My eyes first landing on Hiroto and Masaki who looked panicked, especially Hiroto. Next they drifted over to Cobra and Yamato who looked relived.
     "I'm alive guys," I spoke while Bernie switched sides now standing back on my left. "What were you thinking! Going on a job that involved guns alone!" Hiroto scolded. "I wasn't told anything about guns. I was told I would be protecting a shipment that's all," I stated giving him a look.
   Sighing Masaki came over gently hugging me. "You scared us kid," He whispered pulling away. "I know I'm sorry. Pretty sure I scared Bernie too showing up in the shape I did," I spoke scratching my neck. Next Hiroto stepped forward pulling me into a gentle hug.
     "Next time take more protection. I can't lose my sister," He spoke while pulling away. "We'll check in later," Masaki spoke before the two took their leave. Next Cobra and Yamato stepped forward. Cobra gave me a look before nudging my shoulder causing me to wince.
   "No more dangerous jobs. This is the second time in this week you had to get stitches and be injured," He spoke. "Third time actually. The first set of stitches broke open. The second set held, and now this is the third set along with the injuries," I corrected with a small smile.
    "You scared us, especially Tetsu," Yamato spoke eyeing me. "I'll look in to a safer job but for now I gotta keep this one so I can make money," I spoke giving a reassuring smile. "We'll check in later, Tetsu and them are on their way now. Akemi however didn't want to see you same with Ayame," Cobra spoke.
    "Thank you, I figured they wouldn't. They're still upset with me," I spoke giving a small smile as they left. Once they were gone I let out a breath before turning my attention to Bernie. "You don't have to stay, I know you're probably busy," I stated.
    "I'll go get something to eat and call the others when your friends get here. I'll be back though, I'm staying here already for it okayed for tonight with the nurses and doctor," He spoke giving a soft smile.
    Giving him a smile in return I heard more feet slamming the floor. "Akari!" Tetsu called running into the room with Chiharu and Dan trailing. Quietly Bernie got up leaving the room as Chiharu took over his seat. Tetsu sitting on my right and Dan standing at the foot of my bed.
      "What happened?" Tetsu questioned grabbing onto my arm. "I was on a job and assholes tried to hijack the truck I was guarding. They brought guns and well I ah didn't," I explained scratching my neck. "Why not come to me being injured?" He followed up.
    "Bernie was the closest, plus he's my brother and I'm giving him a chance to be that," I spoke taking a breath. "No more of those jobs please, I can't lose you. We can't lose you," Be spoke looking like he was about to cry.
     "He's right we can't lose you and you scared all of us," Chiharu spoke grabbing my other arm. "I didn't mean to scare anyone and no one's gonna lose me, promise," I spoke looking between the three. "Glad you're alive," Dan spoke before dragging Chiharu out of the room with him.
    Giving a confused look towards the door before looking back at Tetsu. Seeing silent tears rolling down his cheeks while he looked at him. "Don't cry I'm still alive," I spoke reaching up drying his tears. "When I heard you were shot I panicked. I can't lose you Akari, please don't make me live in a world without you," He cried holding my arm a bit tighter.
    "You won't don't worry," I spoke giving a small smile. "I'll go for now, but when you get home I have a lot to tell you," He stated getting up before leaving. Sighing I looked around my empty private room taking a breath.

    "I brought you some food," Bernie spoke holding up a bag as he walked into the room. "Oh my god I love you," I spoke snatching the bag from him. Chuckling he ruffled my hair while pulling the bedside table over for me.
   Helping me take out the food in the bag. "You got me my favorite pasta with garlic knots!" I exclaimed with a big smile. "Ice and Pearl made it, I just went and picked it up. I did however get you a milkshake," He spoke sitting it in front of me. "Oh my god thank you!" I exclaimed like a little kid.
   "You're welcome, the others will come by in a bit. So you have time to eat and rest a bit," He spoke taking his seat. Nodding I slowly started eating, feeling like a kid in a candy shop as I did so.
   Once I finished everything Bernie cleaned everything up and helped me lay back down. Closing my eyes I started drifting off when I heard people come walking in. "Shh she just went to sleep," Bernie whispered. "How is she doing?" Ice questioned.
     "She said she was sore other than that she's okay. I think the food helped, she really enjoyed it. Looked like a kid in a candy shop when she saw it, and while eating it," Bernie chuckled. "Let's go chat in the hall so we don't wake her," Pearl whispered.
     "Rest well babygirl," Ice and Pearl spoke before I heard them all leave the room. Fuck them for being actually decent people. Bernie said he was a horrible person but he's proving to be the opposite of horrible. Same goes for his friends, they're proving to not be all that bad. Damn you bastards, making me like you already.
