Y/n crouched in the tree, awkwardly balanced on a branch as he tried to stay as quiet as possible. The leaves around him rustled softly in the wind, and he wiped a bead of sweat from his forehead, muttering to himself.
Y/n: "How did it come to this... hiding in a tree... from her?"
He peeked down through the branches and spotted Nemona pacing below, her eyes scanning the area with a focused, determined gleam. Her voice rang out, cheerful and relentless.
Nemona: "Y/n! Come on, I know you're close! Let's have another battle!"
Y/n sighed, pressing his back against the tree trunk, more exasperated than scared.
Y/n: "You see this? This is my life now. I'm Y/n L/n, and I've got a bit of a... Nemona problem. She's not bad or anything—actually, she's really fun to be around—but the girl is obsessed with battling me."
He adjusted his position on the branch, trying to get comfortable.
Y/n: "It started out normal. We were rivals—both trainers, both competitive. You know the deal. I thought having a rival would be cool. Push me to get better, all that good stuff. And at first, it was! But, uh... Nemona? She took it to a whole new level."
He winced as he recalled the moment things started to get weird. Nemona had always been competitive, but her energy had ramped up to an almost comical degree.
Y/n: "At first, it was just bumping into her around the academy. No big deal. But then she started showing up everywhere. The Poké Mart? There she was. Out training in the middle of nowhere? Oh look, here comes Nemona! She's like a very enthusiastic, very clingy ninja."
He peeked through the leaves again, watching as Nemona paced below, looking like she was on a mission. Her voice called up again, louder this time.
Nemona: "Y/n! You can't hide from me forever! We're rivals—you know you want to battle!"
Y/n rolled his eyes, chuckling despite himself.
Y/n: "See what I mean? She's relentless! It's kinda sweet... but also a little terrifying. Not in a 'she's dangerous' way—no, Nemona's great. But she's, uh, intense. Like, really, really intense."
He thought back to the time she knocked on his door at 3 a.m., grinning like it was the middle of the day, ready for a battle.
Y/n: "She once woke me up in the middle of the night because she 'couldn't sleep without one more match.' Who does that? I mean, I love battling as much as the next guy, but let me sleep!"
Below, Nemona suddenly stopped pacing and looked around with a wide grin on her face.
Nemona: "I can feel you, Y/n! You're close, aren't you?"
Y/n: "And now, here I am. Hiding in a tree. From my 'rival.'"
He sighed again, though he wasn't really upset. In fact, he found the whole thing kind of funny—Nemona's enthusiasm was part of what made her who she was.
Y/n: "It's not like I mind her being around, you know? She's fun, and, okay, a part of me might actually enjoy all the attention. But she's always there. It's like she's got this built-in Y/n radar, and no matter where I go, she's two steps behind, ready to battle."
Nemona's voice rang out again, now with a playful lilt to it.
Nemona: "Y/n! You can't escape me! We're meant to battle!"
Y/n groaned but couldn't help the smirk creeping across his face.
Y/n: "Yeah, sure... 'meant to.' Or maybe I'm just her favorite battle partner. Either way, it looks like I'm gonna be up in this tree for a while."
As Y/n settled into his branch, he felt a sudden shift in the air. He turned just in time to see a flash of movement behind him. Before he could react, Nemona popped up right beside him, her bright smile shining like the sun.
Nemona: "Found you~"
Her eyes sparkled with excitement, a look that was equal parts enthusiasm and something more affectionate. Y/n's heart sank—there was no escaping now.
Y/n: "Well, there goes the rest of my day..."
