A few days later Delphine was in a world of her own before turning to face Lorraine 'I'm sorry,' Delphine says, her hand dropping back to the bed.

'Don't be,' Lorraine says, placing a hand on top of Delphine's. 'You saved my life.'

Delphine smiles weakly and squeezes Lorraine's hand.

'It was worth it,' she says.

Lorraine's tears start to fall again and she leans down to kiss Delphine's forehead.

'I was so scared I was going to lose you,' she whispers.

'You didn't,' Delphine says, her voice barely above a whisper. 'I'm right here.'

Lorraine nods, trying to regain her composure. She doesn't want to burden Delphine with her emotions when she's still recovering.

'I should let you rest,' Lorraine says, standing up.

'No,' Delphine says, holding onto Lorraine's hand. 'Stay.'

Lorraine looks into Delphine's eyes and sees the trust and love shining through. She pulls up a chair and takes Delphine's hand in both of hers.

'I'm here,' she says.

Delphine closes her eyes and takes a deep breath, feeling safe and loved with Lorraine by her side. She knows they still have a long road ahead of them, but she's grateful to have Lorraine as her partner and lover.

As they sit in silence, Delphine falls back asleep, but this time she knows that she's not alone and that Lorraine will be there when she wakes up again.
