⚠TW: Slight Mentions Of Abortion⚠
Sophie's brain switched back on, but her body didn't. Her conscience floated through the dark space filled with file cabinet-type things. She floated through her brain until she got to the cozy part of it. She was safe there and could think about things that made her happy. Sophie floated with two figures which she'd figured had been her mind's replicas of herself and Keefe. A cool breeze shot through her brain. Sophie stopped floating and she sank. And sank. On her way down, the jagged rocks poked and prodded at her, leaving nasty scars on her body. Slowly, Sophie's senses came back to her. She could hear footfalls—a squeaky noise. Sobbing? Her hand was being held up. Who was holding her hand? Soon, she could see.
"K-keefe?" The blonde that hovered over Sophie looked like he hadn't slept or showered in a week. Keefe looked down at her and stepped out of her view for a minute. Elwin burst into the room with an orb ready in his hands.
"Okay, Sophie, do you know what's wrong? Keefe does, but he won't tell me." The silence made Sophie want to pull out her eyelashes.
Sophie locked eyes with Keefe. "Tell me what's wrong, Keefe. I don't want to be sick, so you can't be stubborn. Please," He made a motion that signaled Elwin to leave. He looked to Sophie for approval, then left.
" When I sent my comfort waves to you the final time, I felt three heartbeats," Keefe's voice broke, "this is all my fault, Sophie. I'm so fucking stupid! I had to get you knocked up, with twins, and on top of that, we'd be deemed a bad match. We have another option-"
"I am not killing my babies. But, no one can know. If the Council finds out, we're screwed. I'm screwed. And Keefe, it's not your fault. It takes two to tango." Sophie said, desperately trying not to cry in front of Keefe.
"What's a tango?" Keefe said, Sophie just now remembering that Human terms weren't prevalent in the Lost Cities.
"Nevermind. But I would be grateful if you could get Biana and Linh. Tell them I need baggy clothes because I'm depressed. Don't tell them why. Ok?" She pulled out an itchy eyelash.
"I-I," His mouth changed shapes, "I hope this turns out all right for us. And them." He motioned to her stomach.
After Keefe left, and Elwin asked her more questions, she could only return to Havenfield and rest.
"Hey, Soph. I was worried about you." A familiar teal pair of eyes was sitting at her her desk.
Sophie cringed, wanting to hide behind her hair. She wondered if Kesler had a hair growth serum.
Fitz took a step toward her and planted a kiss on her lips. "I love you, Sophie. I don't want us to fight anymore. We could have a future. Just imagine." His crisp accent made her feel awful. The kiss gave her goosebumps.
Tears gathered in her eyes. "I won't be with you, Fitz. My heart belongs to someone else. I'm sorry, but I need you to go." it hurt telling her first love to walk out of her life. But Sophie wanted her babies to grow up with their father.
"Sophie-" Fitz tried to reason.
"GO!"
Fitz was about to argue, but Sandor intervened. "Go means go, Mr. Vacker."
Fitz let out a few curse words in Goblin and stormed out. Sophie had never felt so helpless.
