Ringing woke both of them up.
The push of a button.
Sound of a beep.
The slam of a door.
Tires scraping and rolling against concrete all the way across the city until they arrived at the heart.
A shiny large multi million dollar building saw cars drive in and out its parking lot. Two vehicles in particular were only a few minutes apart from each other. Traveling from different ends, only ever meeting here. As they left their respective vehicles, both of them had their headphones on.
Chill indie music with nice synths and cool guitars in one.
And actually... similar music playing in the other.
Wine red short heels and brown sanded low cut boots hit the cement with a clack as each step was taken towards the elevator. Sasuke didn't need to look up from his phone to know who got in at the same time as him. Sakura felt him before she even saw him.
Her smooth thumb pads hit her phone, pretending to text, while Sasuke aimlessly scrolled, pretending to look.
It took one minute before they simultaneously realized neither one of them had pressed a button to move the elevator.
In sync, they both reach to press for seven, their fingers colliding, pressing four instead.
"Great." Sasuke muttered. He shook his head and directed his view to the left. Sakura's face bunched up in annoyance at his remark, she then pressed the correct floor & rolled her eyes.
"I could've gotten it, you know."
Sasuke's lip went in irritation, "But you didn't get it."
"Neither did you."
This time he faced her.
Seeing her up close again since yesterday sent a strange sensation to his heart. One he was trying to contemplate if he'd had before. But then he quickly decided it didn't matter.
Sasuke Uchiha knew women well. In his mind they all had the same formula, a very easy solvable equation. Just like life. For as complicated as most men believe women are, Sasuke found women simple: easy. But this one... she was physically different than most women he'd chosen to interact with, so he couldn't help but be curious.
Last night, when his mind produced the image of her eyes, it felt unsettling. Maybe the universe could've given him a nightmare or a dreamless sleep instead. But no, Sasuke envisioned Sakura's eyes over and over and over again, until he got too tired of attempting to erase the image out of his head.
Yesterday's incident was...not entirely an accident. He saw her walking towards the bathrooms. Didn't see anyone else walk towards the bathrooms...so he decided to go. The chances of them exiting the restrooms at the same time to have an interaction were about fifty fifty. That was...if Sasuke had gotten up from his desk at the exact moment she left hers. But then he sat frozen. Curious and frozen.
A minute too late, Sasuke then calculated that women tend to take longer in the restrooms than men. So that was when he decided to walk over there. He didn't really have a plan. For sure he knew he should've had one. But his walking slowed when the women's restroom door swung open and Sakura emerged with her head down.
Up close her eyes were a mint green, and behind the light layer of makeup on her face, were the smallest dots of freckles. Not many, but he was so close he could've counted them. Sasuke felt even more frozen and more curious, but what killed the moment in literal seconds, was not that she attempted to apologize, but that his palm grasped her waist, and it felt a little too right. It all made him realize the entire day he'd been intrigued, staring at her multiple times throughout the day while she'd only looked at him once. That wasn't a dynamic he'd been interested in entertaining, let alone for a stranger. A stranger he knew in the near future he'd be working closely with.
