Kabir woke up early, feeling the anticipation of starting his 11th standard. The pressure to excel was palpable as he had only two years to prepare for the NEET exams. "Time to introduce myself," Kabir muttered to himself as he got ready. "I'm Kabir Mehta, the school topper, but couldn't top the state by just one mark. You know how it feels, right? Coming second by just one mark."
He frowned, remembering the sting of that near miss. "I start hating the person without even knowing who came first. I don't know why, maybe because I don't want anyone to suppress me. I should be the best, the first, and no one should take my position."
"Second place doesn't leave a lasting impression anyway," he thought dismissively. "Chalo yaar, bahut khud se baatein ho gayi, ab school ke liye late ho jaunga. Asse accha thodi lagega ki first day of school and I'm late. Teachers ko impress karna padega, jaldi tayyar ho ja."
After getting ready, Kabir meticulously ironed his school shirt and trousers, ensuring a neat and tidy appearance. He then packed his bag with all the necessary books and supplies for the day ahead. "Bye, Mom, Dad," he called out as he headed towards the door.
"Kabir, have your breakfast," his mom reminded him.
"Nahi mom, late ho jaunga," Kabir replied, already feeling the rush of the morning.
As Kabir approached the school gate, he spotted his friends Yash and Rohan waiting for him.
"Yash, aaya Kabir?" Rohan asked eagerly.
"Haa, per late hai," Yash replied, checking his watch impatiently.
Kabir greeted them with a smile as he joined them, "Hey guys, kaise ho?"
Yash nudged him playfully, "Late hone ka new trend shuru kar diya?"
Rohan continued, "Haan, Kabir. Tu school topper hai, tujhe late hona shobha nahi deta."
Kabir chuckled again, "Haan baba, next time se pakka, on time aaunga. Chale ab?"
"Haa," Yash agreed.
As they approached the gate, Yash noticed some girls looking in their direction. "Yeh saari ladkiya mujhe guur guur ke kyu dekh rahi hai? Mein itna accha lag raha hu?"
Rohan teased, "Abbe, woh tujhe nahi, Kabir ko tard rahi hai."
Yash shrugged, "Kya hi fayda, woh toh kisko line nahi deta."
Just then, a girl approached them with a chocolate box in her hand. She walked up to Kabir and nervously said, "Kabir, yeh tumhare liye. Actually, I wanted to tell you something. I... I... I ."
Yash interjected, "Haa, 'I' ke baad?"
The girl continued, "Like you, Kabir," she said in a rush.
Kabir politely declined, "Thank you, but I don't like you, and I have no interest in a relationship. It will come between my studies. So, I hope you stay away from me. As for this chocolate, you keep it to yourself."
Without hesitation, Kabir walked away, leaving the girl looking disappointed.
Yash commented, "Yaar, chocolate toh le leta."
"Kabir, tujhe khaani hai toh le aa," Rohan added.
Kabir brushed it off, "Yeh sab chhodo. Tujhe pata hai kaun first aaya 10th boards mein?"
"Pata nahi," Rohan replied.
Yash added, "Ladki hai Greenfield High School ki."
Rohan was surprised, "Ohh, tujhe kaise pata?"
Yash explained, "Internet pe sab aaj kal mil jata hai. Haa, tum log ko tab pata hoga jab tum social media chalate hoge."
With a teasing smirk, Yash entered the classroom, leaving Kabir and Rohan amused.
