⚠️ TW : Mention of SA
————————————

« CJ : So, wait, you're telling me that you were in the team that tried to catch Mitchell? And your team also chose my nickname?
Mae : Well, I did. »

That was even worse. I was standing in front of the person who chose the nickname I was given due to my criminal record.

« CJ : That's crazy...
Mae : Crazy that we're standing in front of each other, you mean?
CJ : Crazy that you already heard about me.
Mae : I didn't only heard about you. I've seen what you did. I read everything that the FBI had on you. You may think you're not a killer but people died because of you.
CJ : I never wanted that. »

I had no idea what to say or do, I just froze. Mae hated me, for sure. She was looking at me as I was staring at the floor, avoiding eye contact.

« Mae : Alright. Get out... »

I looked up at her.

« CJ : What?
Mae : You heard me. Get out of here, get out of my life and don't ever come back.
CJ : But...
Mae : Do it! Before I change my mind and I call the police.
CJ : You can't be serious...
Mae : Oh, I'm dead serious.
CJ : I can't, I can't leave.
Mae : Didn't you hear what I said?
CJ : I did, but I can't leave. If Mitchell figures out I told you, he's gonna be after you too. And by that I mean, his men are gonna be after you.
Mae : So that's why he said that...
CJ : Who?
Mae : Tyler...
CJ : Wait, so, he talked to you? I thought he didn't say anything.
Mae : He never said anything about you, but yesterday when he came in the autopsy room looking for you and I couldn't tell him where you were, he thought I was protecting you. He said something like "Oh, so, she already told you everything." And when he stabbed me and threw me on the ground, what do you think that was for?! »

I rubbed my hands on my face.

« CJ : Oh god, he knows...
Mae : Excuse me?
CJ : Mitchell knows I care about you.
Mae : If you care about me, then why did you lie to me? Why are you still here?
CJ : Because you don't know who you're dealing with. If I leave you, now, you're dead. He's dangerous.
Mae : Yeah, thanks, I know that. »

I didn't had time to explain further. At first, I wasn't able to figure out what was the thing that just flew in Mae's apartment, breaking the window. When I realized it was too late. Mae and I were both thrown on the floor, knocked out.

When I opened my eyes, my ears were ringing from the explosion but I could hear Cameron's cries as she was knelt down by Mae's side. I looked around, the apartment was a big mess. I got up and went to them. I tried to comfort Cameron and told her to move so I could help her mom. Mae was closer to the bomb than I was and even though it wasn't a big explosion it could have cause big damage. She wasn't moving and I was scared that she might be dead. I slowly approached my fingers to her neck, wanting to check for a pulse.

CJ: "Please Mae, don't do this to me."

I took a deep breath and finally my fingers touched her neck. I stopped breathing for a second but then I felt relieved. Mae was alive. I checked her breathing and it seemed normal. I turned towards the little girl who was still crying.

« CJ : Hey, it's okay. Mommy's gonna be okay, alright? »

She nodded.

« CJ : Can you go back in your room? I'm gonna help your mom and I'll come to get you when I'm done, okay?
Cameron : But I wanna stay with Mommy. »

I needed to check on Mae's wound and I didn't want her 3 year old daughter to see that.

« CJ : Okay, but I need you to close your eyes, okay? It's really important that you keep them close.
Cameron : Okay. »
