"Why do they have to do that?" Sakura tried miserably to get Tsunade to change her mind about this.
As his two teammates were yelling at the oldest woman in the room, his mind was spinning like crazy. Sasuke didn't want to be anyone's husband, definitely not Sakura's. She would probably try to take advantage of the situation and force herself on him.
He shuddered, like hell he'd play that role.
Tsunade wasn't having it. She slammed her hand on the desk. "Shut up! Both of you!" she snapped. "I knew you'd complain, but guess what? It's happening. Let me explain."
She paused, then continued, "First, I'm the Hokage, and I choose whoever I see fit for the mission. You don't get to complain about it." She glared at Naruto, who was about to protest again. "Let me finish, brat!" she snapped before returning to her point.
Sakura folded her arms, not happy at all but resigned to hearing the rest.
"I've already explained that the village is tight on resources, which is why we need to send you undercover. Sakura, your medical skills will allow you to gain the villagers' trust and aid our investigation. And your proficiency in Genjutsu will help us get information on their organization." Tsunade paused and gave a knowing look to Naruto and Sasuke. "Use your skills when they're not available."
Sakura nodded in response
Tsunade turned to Sasuke next. "You fit the profile we've set with Team 8. But you'll need to act warmer around your 'wife.' The terrorist organization recruits strong, cold men. So, for this mission, you need to act more approachable."
Naruto burst out laughing at the thought of Sasuke acting all lovey-dovey. "You, Sasuke? A warm, affectionate husband? She nearly choked on her own laughter. "That's rich!"
Sasuke's ears turned a faint red. "Shut up," he muttered, embarrassed.
Tsunade sighed, tired of their interruptions, but she pressed on. Gotta get through this, she thought.
Sasuke hned expressing his understanding.
"Now, as for Naruto," Tsunade began, eyes narrowing as she glanced at the blonde ninja. "You need to put on a perfect act. You're the one who can make them less suspicious. As a pregnant housewife, you'll be seen as trustworthy. You need to make friends and get them to spill any information. Don't act like you care too much, though. If you seem too suspicious, they'll catch on. Also, use your summoning technique to send me a weekly report."
Naruto crossed her arms and raised an eyebrow. "This is so troublesome. Why don't we just say that Sakura and I are siblings, and Sasuke is our cousin or something?"
Tsunade shook her head. "A group of teens without any adults would be too suspicious. They'll question why you're all traveling together."
Sasuke intervened and said Hokage-sama, Sasuke spoke calmly. You mean that if we act like a married couple . . .. awaiting their firstborn, we will look more mature even if we're still young?
"Yes," replied the Hokage. "That's the main advantage of the plan."
Naruto groaned dramatically. "This is the worst plan. How am I supposed to look pregnant? And how could a pregnant woman travel around? That's ridiculous."
Tsunade didn't flinch. "Don't worry about that. I'll use a jutsu to make you appear pregnant for the mission. You won't need to worry about it just yet. And I'll send you scrolls detailing how a pregnant woman behaves."
Naruto muttered to herself, but Tsunade continued. "Any other questions?"
"Hokage-sama, I'm sorry but I don't agree with you, Naruto will surely blow up our cover if she's got this motivation. She believes we're going to fail so we'll most likely fail," Sakura said as she couldn't take it anymore, she couldn't let this chance pass, this mission was not only an A-ranked one but also a perfect opportunity for her to get closer to Sasuke.
