Team 7 gathered at the training ground starting their training as they waited for their ever-late sensei. Kakashi eventually strolled in waving hello before putting them to work, pitting them against each other in sparring sessions.
Naruto easily defeated Sakura while Sasuke and Kakashi's match was neck and neck ending in a draw.
"Alright, that's enough for today. I'm out," Kakashi said, waving his hand "Don't burn the place down while I'm gone." He vanished with a flicker of his fingers, leaving the three of them alone.
"Well, I'm off too. I promised Tsunade to come see her during lunch break," Sakura said, waiting for Sasuke to reply, but he didn't even acknowledge her presence. She frowned and then looked over at Naruto who was still trying to perfect her new wind style jutsu.
Once Sakura left, Naruto sighed and walked over to a very grumpy-looking Sasuke.
He was trying to build up the chakra on his left eye to master Amaterasu. Naruto being Naruto interrupted his training causing Sasuke to fall on his back resulting in an eyesore on his left eye.
"Seriously, Naruto?! What the hell is your problem?" Sasuke groaned, glaring up at her.
Naruto ignored his outburst, crouching beside him. "Calm down Teme. Lemme fix it." Before he could shove her away, she channeled the Nine-Tails' chakra to heal his eye.
"Dumbass," Sasuke muttered under his breath tho his tone had lost its bite.
A few minutes later, Itachi showed up with lunchboxes in hand. As usual Sasuke ignored him completely, much to his brother's disappointment. Naruto sensing the tension tried to lighten the mood.
"Don't worry, Itachi! I'll make sure Sasuke eats!" she chirped giving him a thumbs-up.
Itachi smiled softly and patted her head. "Thank you, Naruto," he said, making Naruto blush slightly. She quickly shook it off and turned back to Sasuke.
"Yo, how long are you gonna fake-train while eavesdropping?" she teased smirking.
"You're so damn loud, Dobe," Sasuke shot back standing up and brushing himself off.
"Don't call me 'Dobe,' Teme!" Naruto yelled, throwing a punch at him.
Sasuke blocked her fist with his arm and twisted, trying to trap her in a hold. Naruto ducked sweeping his legs out from under him. As Sasuke stumbled toward the mud she caught him with a grin.
"Ha! Looks like you lost," she teased. "But I'm too hungry to take care of your cocky ass right now. Let's eat..I swear I'm gonna die if I don't have your mom's food soon!" she shouted the last sentence dramatically.
Sasuke couldn't help but feel a little embarrassed at how easily Naruto had gotten the better of him.
She dragged Sasuke to the bench, Naruto eagerly opened her lunchbox. Mikoto's cooking was a work of art, with perfectly packed meals and plenty of tomatoes for Sasuke.
Sasuke took a small bite and smiled it made him feel warm inside. He was the youngest son of the Uchiha clan's head family, always living in the shadow of his older brother Itachi, who was a genius and prodigy admired by all.
Mikoto Uchiha - Sasuke's mother - was the only person to care about him. She kept saying that Fugaku - Sasuke's 'oh-so-great' father - loved him and cared about him, but since his father had never shown it - even once - during the sixteen years of his existence, he never believed her. Now, he didn't care about his cold father and cocky brother, he had his mother and the rest didn't matter to him. One day, he'd show them all that he was worthy of being a Uchiha.
His thoughts were interrupted by Naruto's loud praise of the food. He was grateful that she was the only person who treated him as a true equal both as a rival and a friend.
"Hey, back to Earth Sasuke, back to earth Sasuke!" Naruto screamed at his face and waved a slender hand in front of his face. Sasuke never found this absurd feeling but Naruto being so close to his face made his heart beat faster.
"Back off, Naruto. You're being annoying," he muttered, a little too quickly.
"Geez, can't you act like a normal 16-year-old, just this once Sasuke"? Naruto bit back.
Sasuke got flustered "W-what did you just say"?
She was about to reply to him but they both heard the footsteps of the pink banshee, their annoying teammate Sakura.
"Damn, she's back already," Naruto grumbled, earning a dismissive "hn" from Sasuke.
Sakura skidded to a stop in front of them, breathless. "We've got a mission! Straight from the Hokage!"
Naruto jumped up excitedly, throwing an arm around Sasuke without thinking. "Finally, something interesting!" she cheered.
Sasuke froze at the sudden closeness, and his heart seemed to race again. He had no idea why it was making him feel this way.
Sakura caught sight of their little moment, her eyes narrowing for a second, but she didn't comment on it. "Let's go! We need to get to the Hokage's office right away!"
Team 7 shunshined to the Hokage's office, startling Tsunade, who nearly spilled her tea when they appeared in front of her.
"Damn it, you brats! Can't you enter like normal people?!" Tsunade barked.
"Granny, you're as grumpy as ever!" Naruto shot back with a grin..
"Brat, you're as loud as ever!" Tsunade snapped back. "Now shut up while I explain the mission."
Naruto pouted but stayed quiet as Tsunade began explaining the mission.
She starts by explaining what Team 8 has already found. "You must infiltrate the village and investigate to identify the boss of a terrorist organization and save the villagers. We believe he's in there, however, if he isn't, try and gather as much information as possible", she explained and began to clarify their objectives.
"You want us to go undercover?," Naruto asked curiously.
"Yes," Tsunade replied. "And guess what? We've already prepared your covers."
Naruto was about to respond, but Sasuke cut her off by asking, "We?"
"We means me and Team 8," Tsunade said, giving them a knowing look. "They've been in contact with the villagers and gave me advice on how to set this up."
Naruto, unable to take the suspense. "Granny, spit it out already! What's the big deal? Is it something outrageous?"
Sakura, annoyed by Naruto's impatience, slapped her on the back of the head. "Shut up, Naruto," she hissed.
Naruto shot a death glare at Sakura, but controlled her anger with a deep breath. This bitch is getting on my nerves... she thought, but kept it to herself.
Tsunade raised an eyebrow. "Sasuke and Naruto... you two are a married couple. Naruto, you're pregnant, and Sakura, you're her doctor."
There was complete silence.
"WHAT THE-?!" they all shouted, including Sasuke, who had never lost his composure... until now. He was supposed to be married to Naruto, who in turn was supposed to be pregnant with their child.
Naruto's jaw dropped. "Are you seriously okay, Granny? Pregnant? Me? Of all people? And married?!" she yelled, her voice cracking.
"This is ridiculous," she grumbled, pacing. "Why do I have to be the Teme's wife? You've seen Sakura obsessing over him her whole life! She'd make a way better wife-way more believable, thanks to that!"
"Please spare me the crap," Naruto added, throwing her hands up in frustration.
"Yeah" screamed Sakura agreeing with Naruto tho she trash-talked her in the process.
