"The police are still searching for the two killers who've been hunting criminals for the past two weeks. Many people are afraid it's all coincidence they kill criminals and that they'll eventually fall out of line and start killing innocents. One thing is for sure; they're with Jeff the Killer."
"What a drama," Sol mumbled as he heard the news over the school speakers. I shrugged, taking another bite from my sandwich, "Maybe it's all just exaggerated?"
"Possibly."We continued eating our breakfast, Sol focusing on his phone while I reread the files of Jeffrey's case. Two weeks have passed since we became friends, and thus he's been targeted as well by Jessica's group by simply hanging out with me.
Sol looked up at me, his eyebrows furrowing when he realized what files I was reading, "You've been staring at that all morning, what's so interesting about that case anyway?"
I sighed, turning to him, "Jeffrey Alan Woods, now known as Jeff the Killer, used to be the son of the friends of my parents. That's how I know him. I'd say we were friends, but looking back I think he rather saw me as an annoying little sister," I chuckled, thinking about the memories I had with him.
"You know Jeff the Killer personally?" Sol looked shocked. I nodded, "He was nothing like how he is painted to be. He was kind and caring, very protective as well. He's the kind of guy who'd burn the world for you, y'know?"
"Used to be, I think you mean. Now he'll burn the world with you in it, laughing as the ashes fall and get danced on by him," Sol tried to convince me that Jeff wasn't the Jeffrey I knew anymore.
I shrugged, "People don't change, Sol. Their outlooks on the world do," I told him before turning back to the files.
"How did you even get those files?" Dol decided to ask me straight away, staring at the files as well.
But I didn't answer.
"Y/N..."
I sighed, my face turning red, "I may or may not have copied them when miss Darley was showing them first semester."
Sol laughed, "Oh you're a naughty girl!" I laughed with him.But of course, the fun didn't last long.
Sol looked up, groaning, "Speaking of the devil..."
I followed his gaze, but before I could even turn my head completely, Jessica had taken Jeffrey's files out of my hands."Ooh what's this? Confidential information? Killer files?" She laughed, shoving the files into Samantha's hands. Jessica turned back to me, "This is illegal, you know that? I can have you expelled and have your dream of becoming a detective crushed."
Her grin...
That toothy smile...
It was one of evil, as if she had her cheeks cut like Jeffrey's."Please don't, I-"
"She had permission to look at this copy of the files from chief Brown. You can't do anything," Sol cut me off, staring blankly at Jessica. I nodded with him, hoping they'd buy the lie.Instead Jessica rolled her eyes, and Rebecca grabbed the files from Samantha's hands before throwing it back in front of me, "You're lucky we're feeling nice today," Jessica told me, spitting on me before walking away.
I sighed, wiping the spit off my cheek with my sleeve as I looked back down at the files. Sol sighed, placing his hand on my shoulder, "Why do you want to resolve this case? Jeffrey has admitted to the murder and is found clinically insane, he's in the psychiatric hospital where he gets help."
I shrugged, opening the files again, "It's not the Jeffrey I remember, the complete opposite."
"Sometimes people snap," Sol sighed, giving my shoulder a little squeeze.
I looked up at him, "You sound like you have experience with that."
Sol went quiet, pulling his hand back, "Y/N, this is not a place to explain it all."
I nodded. The bell rang, signaling our classes were starting. I got up, putting the files in my backpack before hanging it over my shoulder, "I'll see you during lunch period?" I told Sol, he nodded back, giving my upper arm a quick squeeze before walking off to his class.
I walked off to my class as well. The door was already open, so I walked through and quickly sat down in my seat, taking my laptop out of my bag to start working.
"Guten morgen, liebe Leute! I hope everyone had a nice weekend and could rest enough, because today we're talking about the one girl who supposedly survived Jeff the Killer; Jennifer Arkensaw." Miss Blume was as cheerful as she's always been, she was an amazing and fun teacher, still holding onto her German accent despite teaching here for the past three years.
Samantha put her hand up, "Miss, isn't the survival of Jennifer Arkensaw just a legend? I mean, no one could survive Jeff the Killer, besides all the bodies found in the burned down home."
"Amazing question, Samantha. But there's also a theory that the phantom girl treated in the hospital the night after before disappearing without a trace was actually Jennifer Arkensaw!" Miss Blume was too happy for her own good.
Samantha nodded and looked back at her computer screen.
Miss Blume walked up to me, "Y/N, miss Rose told me you had catch-up work to do, so I'm allowing you to try and find out if this legend is real," she whispered to me with a smile.
I smiled back at her, "Thank you, miss Blume!"
So that's what I did, I started researching Jennifer Arkensaw, nicknamed Jane by friends and family, and seeing if she was alive or dead.
Gives me an excuse to visit an old friend of mine.
Jeffrey Woods.
