Christ Crucified

12 3 2

Upon a Cross, on Calvary,

Behold, Christ Crucified.

Life's Kindest Man,

Our Dearest Friend

In love for us,

He died.

In His Body on that Cross

He bore our sin,

Bearing our pain,

He paid the cost.

His Body was the Shield

That caught each burning blow

and blocked the strikes I earned.

God's sinless, sin-bearing Servant

In Humble Strength willingly faced

the Father's Righteous Wrath.

The Innocent Lamb

at the hands of sinful men

was stricken,

bruised

and torn.

With the agony my sin deserved

He was

Scourged.

He gently heals our wounds with Grace

yet in sin we've wounded Him

Yet by His Wounds He with Love heals us

in His Care we're still embraced.

In the crowd I hear my mocking, scoffing voice

The echo of my every sinful choice.

And yet He gazes down with love

He's nailed there for me-

I'm His beloved.

And though His

distressed, shocking state

-the extolled marred and pure in pain-

is a hard sight to behold in shame

don't look away,

for in His Love

He's chosen this for your own sake

Yes, willing in His Perfect Grace

to take your pain away.

Seeing His wounds, His pain,

don't turn away..

Instead may we come up to embrace

and as He holds us

our iniquity, by His Blood's washed away.
