As we pull up to the highschool, I can already see certain cliques forming. I roll my eyes. Some people are just too easy to read. Others, make you think they're easy to read until they show you their true colors and you find out that they were fake the whole time.
As soon as I step off the bus I start looking for the main office so I can get my schedule. I still can't understand why they don't mail the students schedule out before the first day of school but I'm new to this school district so maybe thats just how they do things here..? I really don't know, but thinking too much about it, is giving me a headache. I'm doing my best to follow the signs, but I think I finally understand why, in the movie "Mean Girls," they portray the highschool students as acting like animals. I'm just trying to find the main office, and just observing the other students, I can see the resemblance to the world of the jungle. I start to put my hand up to my face to laugh, when I notice the sign on the building a few meters in front of me. Finally! Office building, here I come! I finally feel a smile start to spread across my face as I lift my foot to start to walk, when I trip on air (I'm assuming) and fall right on my face onto the dirty ground. Yuck! Man, this day just keeps getting worse! I start to realize I'm not alone as I can hear many people laughing all around me. I get up and sprint to the door of the office building. I just want to get my schedule figured out so I can get to a restroom and clean myself up. Hmm, what a very weird start to my first day of school here, I think, as I open the door and enter the hallway of the main office building. I see a few chairs lined up next to a door. I walk over and see the placard on the door that reads "Principals Office." Perfect.. I take a seat in one of the chairs and set my backpack down on the floor next to me. I sigh, and I feel a wave of stress and tension all wash over me. I hope this isn't going to take too long. I just want to get my schedule so I can get to the restroom, clean myself up as best as I can, and then get to class. I already know I'm going to be late. I would hate to get into trouble of any kind, especially detention, on the very first day.. I really need to take a few deep breaths and try to relax. It shouldn't be too much longer of a wait.. at least, that's what I was praying for. I glance around the room until my eyes set in on the wall clock. It's 8:31am. I'm 31 minutes late already!? How is this happening?? I rest my forehead on top of my forearm and close my eyes.

A few minutes later I feel a forceful tapping on my right shoulder. I look up to see an older gentleman in a janitors uniform. "Miss??" I'm pretty sure he's talking to me so I nod while making sure I'm holding steady eye contact with him. "You might want to get a move on or you'll end up late for class." He says, his finger shaking non stop the entire time. "Oh yes, thank you sir but I need to speak with the principal. I never got my schedule, so I don't know what my class for first period is." He eyes me for a minute and then says "let me see if I can go and find her for you." As he's leaving through the door, I hurrily say, "Thank you so much for your help!" And give a sluggish wave at the same time. He smiles back at me for the very first time since I've met him. Maybe no students are nice to him here? Everyone deserves to feel kindness towards them at least once a day, I think to myself as I shake my head and lean back to rest my neck against the wall. I'll just sit and wait right here.
