Marjorie's POV

She finished editing the post, and posted it to her instagram (Marjorie Davis @/marjorieldavis), the one Nat had her make. Her grid was colorful and aesthetic, full of two weeks of posts.

The photos were of her sketchbook, her pens and markers, her nails, her bookshelf. Never her face. No pictures that could link her to Mary, at least not until she finished the job.

Bucky's instagram (Bucky Barnes @/buckybarnes) had no posts, even after the two weeks since Nat enacted her plan and Marjorie had been employed at AdcEP as Mary. Somehow, he had hundreds of followers when she only had the seven that were the other Avengers (Bucky Barnes @/buckybarnes, Natasha Romanoff @/blackwidow, Clint Barton @/hawkeye, Steve Rogers @/captainamerica, Dr. Tony Stark @/ironman, Dr. Bruce Banner @/drbrucebanner, and Sam Wilson @/thefalcon) and the official Avengers account they all had access to (Official Avengers Team @/avengersteam). This put her following at a very depressing eight. She only followed those accounts, too, leaving her internet browsing on a private alt account. This was the same on all platforms Nat had them get. They all had a verified checkmark, courtesy of Tony's extensive bank account.

Steve had the most followers, because apparently his status as Captain America—he had been basically used for propaganda after and during World War Two—and a "war hero" overrode his enhanced status. All of Bucky's extra followers were Steve's followers who had investigated what accounts he followed.

Sam had some followers other than the Avenger's accounts; his sister, his mom, and some others who Marjorie guessed were acquaintances of him in real life.

Tony was followed by Stark Industries, Pepper, Rhodey, and a couple hundred other random accounts (but not as much as Steve). Marjorie guessed this was because he was a Stark and had been famous his whole life, literally before he was born. Tony's name was made to be on a headline and his face was made to be on a tabloid magazine.

Like Marjorie's accont, Nat, Clint, Bruce, and the official Avengers account had no other followers. Not to say they didn't get views, though. Everyone seemed to know that the Avengers had joined social media, and most anti-enhanced people took that as permission to hate-comment.

And Marjorie received the bulk of it from being the only mutant.

She had turned privacy settings on so people she didn't follow couldn't DM her, but refused to take Nat's advice and turn public commenting off.

It was stupid—probably decremental to her mental health that was finally not-entirely-suicidal—but she read every single comment before deleting them individually. Bucky begged her not to, to just let him delete them for her, but she didn't listen. Marjorie wanted to know what they were saying. It was better to know what your enemies were doing than to be blindsided and let them surprise you.

The post she had just finished started to collect views and comments, the algorithm pushing it out. She sighed as she read the first comment. It demanded she delete her account and off herself. Marjorie deleted it.

Bucky came up to her from behind in the kitchen. He wrapped his arms around her waist in a comforting embrace. "Are you ready for today? Did you take pain medication?"
