So, this is the next chapter, and yes the story will get going eventually. So bear with me.

‘MEL… MEL, C’MON! You’re gonna be late!’ I jogged up the stairs, surprised that she wasn’t already waiting impatiently at the door.

When I reached her room, she was lying on her bed in her uniform. As I approached her she quickly tried to wipe her tears.

‘What happened Mel?’ she hesitated before she turned to look at me,

‘Where are you going Seth?’

‘Ah, is that it? How about we talk about this after school yeah? There’s no need to cry!’ She still stared at me sorrowfully, ‘Fine, how about I help you French plait your hair, and just how you like it.’

A small smile crept onto her face and she almost jumped on my lap. She was basically smiling from ear to ear as I started to plait her light blonde hair.

‘Seth Daley. Room 312, 2nd floor, Palmer house. Here’s your room key and campus map. Enjoy Rifton Mr Daley.’

I smiled sharply and turned to Ava, who grabbed my suitcase and started to roll it to room as I grabbed my duffel bag and led the way. The room wasn’t really hard to find.

My chest suddenly felt tight as I headed towards my new room. Who knew how long I was gonna stay here. I’ve never been alone..

So lost in thought, I almost didn’t remember Ava was still in the room. She reached forward to place a hand on my shoulder but I shrugged it off and turned my back, until I heard a defeated sigh and my door closing. And there, I was alone.

What to do? Unpack maybe? Meh, I contemplated a few ideas until I was interrupted by a few short knocks at my door. Sighing, I headed for the door. A slightly taller than average guy stood in front of me, his hair partially covered his eyes;  he had a very disinterested look on his face and stared lazily at me

‘Hi, I’m Declan, your mentor for your first couple of weeks here. I’m supposed to show you around or something like that.’  Seriously? This was the best this school can offer?

‘Yeah whatever’

I grabbed my room key, slipped on my air forces, and followed this guy down the hall. After barely 30 seconds down the hall, he stopped at a notice board,

‘There,’ he pointed up ‘is the school map,’ then he pointed down the corridor, and there is my room, so I’m heading there, join if you want, cos we both know we ain’t gonna spend time walking around this shithole.’

Hmm, maybe he wasn’t so stupid. We headed to his room, which I noticed was very much larger than mine, and slumped into one of the bean bags placed in front of his 42 inch tv. I sat there awkwardly until he handed me an xbox controller.

Declan stood up to go get a drink from his mini-fridge, just as someone barged into the room. I didn’t take the time to look, assuming it was his roommate or something, until I heard a female voice.

‘Hey, just came to borrow a hoodie’

‘Help yourself; you ain’t no stranger in here’

I turned to see a fairly slender girl with copper red hair that cascaded in loose ringlets down her back and full rim glasses which seemed too big for her, but in a comfortable way. She kept her head slightly lowered looking only to Declan but back down again. She was wearing baggy jogging bottoms and a simple purple vest.

I looked back to the paused game, but turned around, just in time to catch her eye. I smirked at her, leaning back on the bed behind me; in return she rolled her eyes and slammed the door just a bit too hard. Feisty.
