"There it is," Ash pointed at Viridian City on the horizon.

"Pika!" Pikachu climbed on Ash's shoulder from Charizard's neck to get a better view.

Charizard roared as it readied to descend. Ash reached for the sealed letter in his shirt pocket. He looked at it with pensiveness while they moved through the clouds. The trainer thought about May and the incident at Lake Valor. I hope you're alright, May, Ash didn't know why it happened, but he got the sense he needed to be there for his friend somehow. He clung his hopes on the letter for that. They were nearly hovering over the entrance of the Pokémon Center.

Upon touching the ground, Ash and Pikachu got off the Fire-type. "Thanks for flying us all the way here, Charizard. Rest up now," Ash caressed the Fire-type's snout.

"Raaaaa!" Charizard proudly growled as Ash returned it to its Pokéball.

"C'mon, Pikachu," Ash looked at the Electric-type, who excitedly nodded. Then they ran inside. "Nurse Joy!" Ash called out as soon as he got through the sliding doors.

The nurse quickly turned her attention from the computer to Ash and smiled, "Welcome, how may I help you?"

When Ash reached the desk, the first thing he did was slam the envelope on the desk with an eager tone, "Hi Nurse Joy, I'd like to send this letter, please."

"Right away, I'll be happy to send this letter," Nurse Joy received the item from Ash.

"Thank you," Ash said once he handed it to her. "Is there any way I can find out if the person ever received my letter?" Ash questioned.

Nurse Joy shook her head sideways, "I'm afraid not. We don't monitor that because the Pokémon are in charge of delivering the letters."

"Oh," Ash got slightly disappointed but smiled at her, "Thanks anyway."

"No problem," Nurse Joy beamed at him.

"See ya, Nurse Joy," Ash waved goodbye as he ran off with Pikachu. Nurse Joy waved goodbye, amused by Ash's hurry. The trainer had come and gone in less than two minutes.

Ash stood under the sun with an enthusiastic spirit. He remained optimistic over May's condition and felt things would somehow work out for them. They always did. "How about we grab a bite, pal? We left in such a rush this morning that we didn't have much for breakfast."

"Pika!" Pikachu agreed. The mouse could eat right now.

Before they took another step forward, a voice caught their attention, "Well, how about that? I didn't even have to go search for you. You just came here yourself," the surprised voice said.

"I recognize that voice," Ash froze in his position and slowly turned around to confirm his suspicions.

"Ash," the purple-haired trainer acknowledged him.

"Pikachu pi," Pikachu couldn't believe his eyes.

"It's Paul!" Ash's eyes were wide when he saw him.

"Yeah," Paul crossed his arms with a cold stare.

"Long time. No see," Ash confidently grinned with his left hand balled into a fist.

Paul nodded, "I know. I see your silly smile hasn't changed," His rival stepped closer to him.

"Silly?" Ash frowned at him. Paul hadn't changed much, either.

"Last I heard, you were the Runner-up in the Kalos League," Paul moved on to a different topic.

"Yeah, we came up short again, but that's never stopped us," Ash expressed his positive attitude. "What brings you to Kanto?"

"To challenge you. I want to see how strong you've gotten. I also want to test the power of one of your Kalos Pokemon, " Paul smirked.
