I quickly turned my alarm off and sat up in bed. It took me a minute to remember what day it was but when I did I quickly got up from out of my bed and headed over to my joined on bathroom. I grabbed my towel from my basket, that sat on a small shelf next to the mirror, and started to get ready for the day.

I wore the outfit I picked out the night before, which was suitable to see a royal in. I wanted to make a good impression on the princess and not one that could leave me scared for the rest of my life.

Before I left the house, I got a call, a call from the palace saying there would be a car to pick me up to take me there. I mean I was thankful for this but I wasn't expecting it when i'm just getting an interview to be a maid.

Later, at the palace

Once I arrived, I was shown around the palace by one of the workers here and I was also shown the areas I would work if I did get the job. While on the tour, the worker gave me reassurance that I would get the job because I was polite, quiet and lastly innocent. My mind was confused on how innocence would get me a job and how that was any importance but I just shrugged it off and put it in the back of my mind.

Finally, it was the moment were I would have to sell myself to the one and only, Princess Margaret. I was so scared. My hands were shaking practically in fear. I began to think of the all the things I would say and how I would say them because one mistake could put the job at risk.

A worker, of higher importance, opened the door and told the princess of my presence. I walked in slowly behind him, as he told me too before he opened the door. I saw her. She was beautiful. Even more beautiful than she was on those newspaper photos. The worker left the room and closed the door behind him which just meant me and the princess were in a room, together, alone for that matter.

"Please, sit," She pointed to the chair which was opposite her.

I did I was told and sat in the chair.

"So, what is your name?" She began, placing a cigarette between her lips and lighting it.

"My name is Y/N Y/L/N, ma'am," I said calmly.

As she exhaled the cigarette, the smoke flowed through the air.

"What a pretty name, for a pretty girl."

My cheeks began to heat up, from the compliment that the princess gave me. Did she always give people compliments? I guess so.

"Uh, thank you, ma'am.." I said

"Right, lets begin with the interview," She said with a smile across her face.

Throughout the interview, the princess gave small compliments about me which made me go insane on the inside. It's not everyday you get complimented by a royal.

"Y/N?" she asked

"Yes, ma'am?"

"How would you like to be my lady in waiting? I know you weren't applying for that but through this interview you've shown me that you need a better job than just a scullery maid."

I was lost for words. Did I seriously make such a great impression on her. I mean i'm thankful but still, I couldn't believe it.

"I'd love to be your lady in waiting, ma'am, it's an honour" I say

"Well, you are hired!" She exclaimed, "You will start on Friday at 6:00 am"
