This was the time of day that I loved most. There was something so captivating about the way the buttery golden sun sat lower in the sky, casting ribbons of pinks and purples to appear; the sun was just tired enough to let a few early stars twinkle, but still strong enough to light my world for a few hours more. Although it was considerably cooler at this point, I wanted nothing more than for this twilight to last forever.

I stopped for a moment just to take the beauty in. The thick layers of snow appeared almost fluffy, dusting every tree and every blade of grass with a shimmer. The mountains ahead of us stretched out for miles, a beautiful backdrop of hard stone and white peaks. My breath swirled out as a fine grey cloud in front of me as I sighed.

A soft growl gently broke the silence, and I turned to my left side to tousle the fur on my companion's head.

"We'll get some food soon," I whispered to him, smiling as his wide brown eyes looked up to meet mine. He cocked his head, telling me to keep moving. I chuckled lightly as I picked up the pace again.

The ground crunched beneath my brown boots. If I wasn't careful, this winter could kill me. It had been a harsh one this year. Beautiful but dangerous. Entrancing but deadly.

Another growl emerged from beside me, but this time it was louder, harsher, deeper. I knew this growl and what it meant. I paused, grasping his make-shift collar.

Without a sound, he appeared before me. An angel-like creature with such impossible beauty it almost hurt to look at him. His porcelain skin was as white as the snow beneath us, and his wild eyes were a shocking shade of pomegranate red. As I took in this shocking face, my blood ran cold and my heart began to pace erratically. Every cell in my body warned me that he was a danger.

But before I could move my chapped lips to scream, he sunk his pearly teeth into my neck.
