PORTLAND, 1993

Cigarette smoke filled the clear night sky as Isabella Salvatore took her last puff. The vampire dropped the cigarette onto the cement before stomping her boot into the ground, putting the cigarette out. "Are you ever going to quit?" Adelaide Sinclair asked as the two entered the venue.

"When I drop dead." Isabella chuckled as the beginning cords of  "come as you are" began to echo off the walls. The vampire quickly grabbed her best friend's wrist and pulled her towards the front, compelling every single person to move out of their way.

"Why are you obsessed with this band again?" Adelaide yelled over the music, not understanding her best friend's music taste.

"You just don't get it." Adelaide answered back before she returned to screaming the lyrics as she watched Kurt Cobain play the guitar. The Sinclair rolled her eyes, but joined her best friend as they both began to scream the lyrics.

"I need a drink. Do you want one?" Isabella asked as she turned her head towards Adelaide. Adelaide shook her head no, and Isabella began to shove through the crowd of people, the smell of booze, cigarettes, and weed filling her nostrils. The Salvatore had finally reached the bar. "A whiskey sour." She ordered at the bartender as she stood there waiting.

"Hello beautiful." A voice spoke sweetly behind her. Isabella turned around to see a very attractive man with a smile plastered across his face.

"Hi." Isabella smiled back. She looked deeply into the man's dark blue eyes and an overwhelming wave of sadness washed over her, almost matching her own sad eyes.

"I'm Kai." The man introduced himself.

"I'm Isabella." She said before she turned back around towards the bartender. "Make that two whiskey sours." Isabella compelled the man, and he nodded.

"So what is a gorgeous girl like you doing at this type of concert?" Kai asked as Isabella still had her back towards him. The Salvatore let a light chuckle leave her lips at the attempt Kai made at flirting, but Isabella decided to play along.

"And what is a gorgeous guy like you doing at this type of concert alone?" Isabella asked flirtatiously as she turned around and handed Kai one of the drinks.

Kai let out a light laugh escape his lips. "Caught me." He smirked at Isabella as he watched the girl reach into her back pocket and pull out a Marlboro carton.

"Want one?" Isabella asked, holding the carton towards Kai. He nodded as he took a cigarette out of the carton. Isabella brought the cigarette towards her lips. She placed the cigarette in her mouth before she brought her lighter up close to her face to light the cigarette, and Kai watched her intensely, becoming more attracted to the girl by the second. After Isabella lit hers, she handed Kai the lighter. "And to answer your question, I'm at this type of concert because I enjoy the music." She answered with a smirk as she held the cigarette between two fingers.

"Beautiful and great taste of music." Kai smiled at Isabella. "How do you not have a boyfriend?"

Isabella leaned closer towards Kai as she brought her hand up to her mouth, placing it on the side. "Because I'm crazy." She whispered to him.

"Well luckily that's my type."  Kai whispered back as a smirk formed on his face.

The two talked through the whole concert. Between laughs and deep conversations, the two became heavily attracted to one another. Isabella had totally forgotten about her best friend until an angry looking Adelaide came walking over towards the two. "Isabella! There you are." She glared at Isabella, making the Salvatore roll her eyes.

Isabella grabbed a pen from the bar counter and a scratch piece of paper. She quickly jotted down her number before handing it to Kai. "Call me." She winked at the brunette before walking away with Adelaide.

"Who was that?" Adelaide asked with a smirk written across her face as the two walked out of the venue.

"Kai Parker." Isabella smirked back as she linked arms with her best friend as they walked together through the night.
