Chapter 5 - Kidnappers

Narrator's pov

"Scarecrow, please, find my sister. "

Scarecrow's eyes shot opened and immediately sat up from his couch. Sweat pouring down his forehead as he breaths deeply. He eventually finds his breath and calm down, to his surprise he found himself in his human form.

"No wonder why I was sweating. " Scarecrow said to himself. He closed his eyes as he transformed back to his scarecrow form, his real form. Scarecrow was wearing a white shirt, and a pair of pajama.

According to Ophelia, the pajamas and the white shirt that he is wearing is from her grandfather when he was young. Now Ophelia gets it why her grandfather is keeping the old things in the house instead of putting up a yard sale.

"Good morning, Scarecrow. " Ophelia greeted him. Scarecrow jumped upon hearing Ophelia's voice, he didn't even realize that Ophelia was actually at the kitchen, making some coffee for breakfast.

"O-oh! Good morning to you too, Ophelia. " Scarecrow greeted back. Scarecrow got out of the couch and went to the kitchen to grab something to eat but before he could enter the kitchen he saw the wall clock and his eyes widened.

"Sweet Oz! You forgot to wake up Dawn, Ophelia. "

" Scarecrow, today is Saturday. " Ophelia informs him taking a sip to her morning coffee.

"Oh, right. Heh, I forgot. " Scarecrow as he let out a nervous chuckle and scratches the back of his head.

"Here's your coffee. " Ophelia said, extending her hand to give Scarecrow his morning coffee.

"Thank you. " Scarecrow said as he transformed into his human form in order to drink the coffee.

"Say, does coffee exist in Oz? " Ophelia can't help but asked.

"Um, yes, it do exist but not just that but also tea, and juice. " Scarecrow answered.

"Uh huh, no wonder you had no difficulty on making coffee or tea but then again it must be the Wizard who makes it popular. "

"Oh he did, I remember Glinda telling me that the Wizard has items, foods, and drinks that he had that wasn't seen before in Oz. The Wizard taught them how to make coffee and tea but also cooks food and that's when people started drinking coffee, drinking tea, eating food that he used to eat, and etc. " Scarecrow explained. Ophelia keeps on nodding her head.

Ophelia went to the living room to look into the calendar to find that it was the first week of April.

"Phew, didn't realize that Dawn has 2 months left in Junior High School but once school is over she is officially a Senior High School student. "

"Senior High School? What's that? "

"Senior High School is basically getting the student ready for college. It has two grade levels, Grade 11 and Grade 12. " Ophelia told him. Scarecrow never quite get to see what the education system looked like in this world.

"In Senior High, there are three or four strands that the students must choose. There are STEM, HUMSS, ABM, and GAS. "

"Can you tell them what's their meaning and how does this apply to the students such as Dawn and Kaley. " Scarecrow asked. Before Ophelia could answer his question, she first went upstairs to her room, leaving Scarecrow alone in the kitchen with confusion in him but moments later she came back with a brochure in her hand.

She placed the brochure down to the table so Scarecrow could get a glimpse on the strands of the Senior High School Department.

"Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics also known as STEM. The STEM careers on our list are diverse, including jobs like psychologist, software developer, civil engineer and statistician. " Scarecrow reads out loud what the brochure says while Ophelia is sipping her cup of coffee as she looks at Scarecrow for his reaction.
