Who would you consider your hero to be?
Some would pick superheroes like Iron Man, Captain America, or Batman. If not, what more grounded figures, such as a well-known individual, firemen, educators, police officers, physicians, or members of the armed forces, spring to mind?More importantly, what does the term "hero" mean?
A person who inherits their peers' trust and admiration? Someone with strong moral principles and always behaves in an ethical manner even when it would be easier to act otherwise? What about a person who stands up for those less able, or who sacrifices their own well-being to ensure the safety of others? One thing is certain, regardless of who you pick, or your definition of a hero: anyone can be one in the eyes of another person. Even though they might not think it applies to them.
"Who is your hero, and why?" Carl, the little boy with a freckled face, read aloud.
His mother, Lori, peered over from the kitchen island where she was preparing breakfast. "That shouldn't be too hard, right?"
"I can only pick one." He reclined in his chair, with his voice descending to barely more than a whisper.
Observing the boy's distress, the spatula was lowered. "That isn't true. You don't have to limit yourself to just one hero, baby. In fact, you can have as many as you want. You only have to write about one."
A troubling sigh was all that was needed to know he wasn't convinced.
"Alright, think of it this way. If you had to write a paper about every hero you have, you'd never stop doing homework, right?" Her brows raised when waiting to see what sort of response he'd give.
