Bailey
"See you tomorrow Bailey!" Lola said after waving to us leaving her store.
With one final wave I walked through the front door that David was holding open. As we walked over towards his car I suddenly had an odd feeling that someone was watching me. I stopped walking and turned around, looking all over the parking lot but didn't see anyone.
"You okay?" David asked besides me.
That strange feeling was still there as I stood closer to David's side, his arm automatically wrapping around me. "I thought someone was staring at me."
He scanned the parking lot as well before saying, "I don't see anyone, but let's go home okay?"
With a nod I got into the car after he opened the passenger side. Once we were home the nervous butterflies were swarming in the pit of my stomach. I'd been nervous ever since I woke up this morning with the call with my brother. I wondered if any memories would come back from talking with him. I felt bad that I was too unstable to wait until he came home from his honeymoon. But at the same time I was annoyed that my family didn't come home when they found out I was in an accident. Was I that selfish?
After David let Petunia out he helped me set up his computer for the call. He had told Ben to call his phone since he could pull up the call on a larger screen with his Mac. I then sat down at the kitchen table, David sitting next to me with a small notebook and pen in front of him.
I then waited, and waited, and waited some more. David made something to eat since we were just sitting and waiting. Now it was going to be almost an hour and a half since he was supposed to call. Had he changed his mind? Would I ever talk to him?
Just then the computer lit up with a call, Ben Cooper displayed on the screen. David put a hand onto my thigh, giving my shorts a small squeeze of encouragement. My fingers were shaking as I answered the call and saw a complete stranger looking back at me. With his dark hair and blue eyes, we looked absolutely nothing alike. I was hoping for some sort of family resemblance. Instead he was staring at me boredly, an ocean view behind his tan face.
"Hi," I nervously said while trying to smile normally. "You're Ben?"
He continued to stare at me before asking, "Do you seriously not remember anything?"
"No, I don't. I got into an accident and don't remember anything about my life."
Ben then snorted while rolling his eyes, folding his arms over his chest. "That is just so typical Bailey."
My fingers gripped David's hand still on my shorts as I asked, "What?"
"You've always been dramatic ever since you were little. You were always so desperate for attention that you'd pull any stunt just so someone would look at you. Then you grew up and became even more of a brat."
Before I could say anything the computer was turning, David's upset face looking at Ben. "This is not what your brother needs to hear right now, and I'm pretty sure you know that."
They stared at each other for awhile until Ben asked, "Let me guess, you're the cop?"
"Yes I am. Now, don't ruin this opportunity you have with Bailey."
With that the computer was turned back towards me as Ben rolled his eyes again. "Whatever. What do you want to know?"
"You're my younger brother?"
