Marcus's POV

Only a few hours left of this shift. Man, I thought last night was busy. At least the time flies by when it's busy. It's been pretty good, and these people tip like that have infinite money. I'm sure some of them basically do. With tips like these, I don't think I'll ever leave this job.

I'm putting a bottle back on the shelf when I hear someone yell behind me

"Oh my gosh, new guy!"

I turn to find Dez sitting at the bar, "Drunk girl!" I mimic her excitement.

"It's me, Dez! We met yesterday."

I have no interest in explaining that I was making fun of her, "Oh right, Dez, how's your night going?"

"Better now that I've got you," Uses her hand to prop herself up on the bar, smiling lazily.
I laugh at her forwardness, "Are you here for another drink?"

"Well actually I'm here to talk to you, but since I'm here I wouldn't say no to a shot of tequila."

"Coming right up," I pour her a shot and she immediately downs it. "What did you want to say to me?"

"Uh, yeah. I just wanted to say sorry for how I acted last night. I feel like I acted like an entitled bitch."

"Probably because you were acting like one," I smirk when I see her face drop, shock painted on her face.

"Oh, I-"

"I'm joking, don't worry," I could see her whole body relax, she really did believe me. "Maybe I thought you were a little stuck up at first, but I understand the situation now. You don't have to apologize to me." I don't know why I said that. I do think she acted like a bitch, and I do think the apology was warranted. I suppose it's not my place to tell my boss' daughter how to act.

She totally deserved that shock though.

"I just didn't want to start off on the wrong foot, we're gonna be seeing each other a lot after all." her body language shows she's still a little uncomfortable by my "joke". She refuses to make eye contact with me.

"water under the bridge, don't even worry about it," I give her a warm smile, hoping this will get her to drop the topic.

Well, she dropped the topic, she also started up her flirting again. It seems the more she drinks the more she wants to piss me off. Every time she comes to the bar she flirts with me and Nick. It's usually pretty subtle and jokey, though sometimes it doesn't feel like a joke. But I know it is a joke.

"Hey handsome," I don't even have to turn around to know it's Dez.

"You know, you act like a creepy dude when you're drunk," I say as I finish making a drink. I finish the transaction and walk over to where Dez is.

"I'm not a dude, dude." She laughs at her own non-joke, man she is wasted.

"Obviously. I'm saying you act like those creepy guys who prey on girls at bars."

"So I'm a dude and you're a girl?"

I sign, there's no use talking to her in this state, but I continue anyway. "I'm just saying I'm sure you wouldn't like having a man talk to you the way you talk to me and Nick."

She smiles at what I say, clearly not getting my point. "So I make you feel unsafe? Oh, I'm so sorry Marcus I didn't know you were so sensitive." She tries to put her hand on my shoulder in mock comfort but I grab her wrist before she can. Her eyes widen at my grip, I hold her tighter causing her to release a small yelp of pain.

"If you would stop joking for one second maybe you'd understand. When you incessantly flirt and objectify someone who's not into it, you're not being a nice person."

She stays silent for a moment before her face hardens and she twists her wrist from my grasp, "I'm being a bitch."

"I didn't say that."

"Yes you did, you called me a bitch earlier."

"That was a joke."

She gets off her stool and walks behind the bar, "It's okay, you're not the first one to say it." She grabs a bottle of liquor off the shelf. She doesn't break eye contact as she takes a long swig, then punctuates the action with a tight-lipped smile. Quickly, she shoves past me and heads to the dance floor, bottle in hand.

What a bitch.

︵‿︵‿︵‿︵‿︵

About half an hour went by and I saw no sign of Dez, thank God, but of course my luck wouldn't last long. Suddenly, a group of people started cheering, I looked up to see Dez and her friend from last night standing on a table with a crowd around them. They take turns sipping out of the now near-empty bottle while they dance. I thought Dez was wasted before, she looks like she's gonna pass out. I rush over to the table, pushing the crowd out of the way.

"Alright shows over, c'mon girls get down." I hold out my hand for one of them to grab, Dez's friend immediately takes it and uses the booth seat as a step.

"Aw you're no fun," She pouts.

"You know what's no fun? A concussion." She has enough sense not to talk back a second time. Dez on the other hand...

"You can't make me do anything," She says, swaying without her friend to stabilize her.

"I will do whatever the fuck I want, you've clearly had more than enough to drink, if you stay up there you will no doubt fall and injure yourself." I'm on my last nerve, I know yelling isn't going to solve anything but it's all I can think to do. Most of the crowd dispersed but some people lingered for the drama.

"I'm not even that drunk," She slurs, trying to keep steady.

I grab her foot and pull it forward just enough for her to lose her balance. She lands on the table, falling on her ass.

"What the hell!" She yells.

I turn to her friend who is laughing at the sight of her friend falling. Glad I'm not the only one who enjoyed that. "I'm going to get Nick to take her home. Do you need a ride too?"

"I'll probably spend the night with Dez, I think she's gonna need a babysitter."

"Okay good," I start walking away but then stop in my tracks, I turn back to the girl, "Sorry for being angry, it's been a long night. I'm Marcus by the way, the new-"

"The new bartender, I know. I'm Brianna, it's nice to meet you officially," She shakes my hand, "And don't even worry about it. Drunk Dez has that effect on people."

"Oh no, she's not the problem-"

She cuts me off again, "Marcus. I'm her best friend. I know the look of a man who's been tormented by Dez." Brianna gives me a knowing smile. I guess there's no hiding it from her.

"Well I'm gonna go get Nick, it was nice to meet you." I leave before she can say anymore. I sneak a glance behind me to see she's taking the bottle from Dez and helping her into the booth seat. I wonder if Brianna doesn't drink as much so she can take care of Dez, or maybe I'm reading into it and she prefers not to get wasted.

I informed Nick of what transpired and watched as he escorted the girls out, he and Brianna keeping Dez on her feet. Since it was so late in the night I told Nick I could close without him.

I thought these last few hours were gonna be nice and easy but Dez had to disrupt the flow. Even after she left, she and her actions stayed in my thoughts.

Even when I got into bed and tried to sleep, she stayed in my thoughts.

Author's note:

Okay who do you think was in the wrong? Was Dez being a bitch? What do you guys think about Dez's and Marcus's dynamic? Hopefully the next chapter will be done sooner than this one was.
