Heart of Glass

Part 6

The group of four were sitting in the cafeteria of a school waiting for the game to start. Misaki was observing each person there very closely. There was a woman that had side bangs and long dark brown hair. There was a group of 3 teenagers in the corner being awfully mean to the woman as well.

The last person had just entered the room. It was a girl. She had long dark brown dreadlocks that were tied into a ponytail. She wore a beautiful red top and fancy blue jeans. In her mouth was a fake cigarette she chewed.

There was a ding and Misaki looked at the watch that was given to them.

"The game will now commence. There are currently nine players. Game difficulty three of Clubs."

"Huh, this'll be easy then." Niragi snickered to himself.

"Game is 'School'. Each team must gather into three groups of three. You must all work together to get points. Each team will get 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. The team that ends in last place will be eliminated. Each round will be a different school subject. Physical, Scientific, and Mathematical. First one to complete or win each round will get 3 points. If your team comes in second you will receive two points. If your team falls last you will receive 1 point. Your goal is to be 1st at the end of each round. You must now choose your group."

Misaki started to walk to the girl with dreadlocks. "Hey, you." the girl turned and gave her a look. "Do you want to be in my group? You are pretty athletic are you not?"

"H-How did you know?" The girl replied.

"Your muscles are defined as if you do some sort of fighting. Also, your face lit up as soon as you heard 'physical'." Misaki replied.

"Huh." She was stunned, Misaki could tell by the look on the girl's face. The girl stuck her hand out, "Kuina. I'll join your group."

The woman wearing nice clothing walked over, "Can I join you two?"

"Are you any good at math?" Misaki asked.

"I would hope that is what my math degree means. I have a degree in Applied Statistics. My name is Kotoko Shiga. You can call me Koto if you'd like." She spoke soft and sweetly.

There was another ding signaling the game was starting. The room started to shake and from the middle of the dining area there were rock walls coming from the ground.

"First round: Physical. Players must climb the rockwall as fast as possible to be the first one at their button."

Suddenly at the top there were green, yellow, and red brightly lit buttons. Everyone's watch slightly buzzed but when Misaki looked down her watch was colored green. She looked at her teammates and theirs too had green screens.

"Does this mean we are the green team?" Kuina asks, not really expecting to get an answer.

The watches dings again.

"Each team has been provided with their color. Players playing the physical round please make your way to the wall."

Kuina listens and walks over. Misaki notices Mai walking as well and the girl from the group of teenagers.

Misaki was confused on why they chose the girl to do the physical. She had no muscles and was very small.

As Misaki watched the all look at their watches getting ready to climb she realized that Niragi was left to do either the science or the math game. She looked over to see him smirking towards the rockwall.

Misaki seemed to space out because when she looked back to the wall they were already climbing. The girl was going really fast and she was already more than half way up the rockwall but she lost her footing. She fell and hit her head on one of the rocks. She screamed and Misaki inwardly cringed. When the girl hit the floor there was an ear splitting scream and a loud crack.

From where Mai and Kuina were they both looked down breathing hard with frightened faces. The screaming had stopped and for a second there was nothing but silence. Then the two boys the girl was with were swearing and yelling to her, but she was unresponsive. Misaki ran to her and checked her pulse. Nothing. Misaki backed away back to where she and Kotoko were.

"Is she..." Kotoko asked.

All Misaki could do was reply with a nod. She turned her head back to watching the other two just in time to see Mai press her button right before Kuina did.

There watches ding once again.

"Congratulations, the red team has 1 point, the green team has 2 points, and the yellow team has 3 points."

Then three ropes fell from the ceiling. Kuina jumped to the one right in front of her first, then Mai the third one was left unattended due to the previous events.

Kuina walked over to her group.

"Second round: Maths."
