*This chapter takes place the day before Caleb moved many years ago.*
-Caleb's POV-
As I packed up the last box, out of nowhere tears came out of my eyes. We had to move just because of my stupid father who got a "job". My father was an alcoholic and my mother was always "working" or abusing me, but no one knew; not even Katrina. The good part is that my mom always acts nice around Katrina so I see the good side of my mom once in awhile. "CALEB! KATRINA IS OUTSIDE IN THE GARDEN I TOLD HER YOU WERE THERE SO HURRY UP AND GET THAT ASS OF YOURS OUT THERE!" I jumped out the window and onto the grass, we had a one story house. Katrina wasn't there yet so I ran to the stone wall near the garden and picked some pink roses for Katrina too. Katrina was over at the side of the house and when she saw me she came running, "Why is there a big truck with your stuff in it in your front yard? My parents said that you—" Katrina looked worried and her eyes started watering, "I'm moving..." She started to cry so I handed her my roses, "D-Does that mean g-goodbye? F-Forever?" Katrina looked up at me, "Not forever, we will see each other again someday. I promise." The moving truck honked, I hugged Katrina one last time and kissed her forehead.
*4 years later*
-Katrina's POV-
I miss Caleb, I miss him more then anything. Yet it was Wednesday and I packed my school bag and headed out the door to go to Oakville Private Academy. It wasn't the same without Caleb, now the mean girls picked on me and I have no friends. When I walked into the hallway I was still half an hour early and there were little posters up on the walls and all over the floor! I picked one up and read it:
Mrs. Kings is STILL heartbroken that little Caleb is gone, looks like some crushes never stop. P.S: KATRINA IS A SLUT! Stay away!!
Tears starred flowing out of my eyes, but I was smarter than them. I went into the janitor's closet and got a hose that was in there in case of a fire. In sprayed the entire hallway so no one could read the papers, I then got all the papers and threw them away with ten minutes to mop the hallway so nothing ever happened. The first bell rang and I got my stuff from my locker and went to history class which I happened to have with Phoebe, the main mean girl. Everyone came in and so did Phoebe who looked as mad as a hornet. "YOU! I SPENT HOURS PRINTING OUT THOSE LETTERS LAST NIGHT INSTEAD OF DOING MY NAILS!" The class laughed at her red face, "I'm not sure what you're talking about... Maybe you should go to the guidance counselor or probably anger management...." All of the class laughed, it felt good to finally tell Phoebe off. "You will pay for this, Katrina. Mark. My. Words."
*Lunch*
Sky, Gracie, Starr, Serena and Phoebe were all arguing in the hall so I stepped a tad closer behind a wall in the corner to listen in:
"PHOEBE YOU TOOK IT TOO FAR"
"I agree with Starr, you need to stop bullying her or we'll go to the headmaster."
"Just stop Phoebe because you seriously took it too far."
"I don't need any of you! You're just little puppies that follow me around all the time, it's sad really."
Phoebe then stormed away leaving the girls alone in the hallway.
I walked around the halls, alone. I couldn't stop thinking about Phoebe, and Caleb. I walked into the cafeteria. Suddenly Phoebe walked up to me. "Hey Katy! Wanna hang?" She asked giving me a warm smile. I gave her a look. I know what she's up too. She's going to embarrass me. I wasn't going to let that happen. "No thanks, Phoebe." I said confidently. Phoebe hung her head, "Okay.. And I just wanna say... I'm sorry for what I did to you." She said, and walked away. Suddenly I felt bad, so I walked over there and sat down. Suddenly she smiled "Get me some fries please hun?" She asked nicely. I nodded, got up and heard a sound. A sound that sounded like... ***RIP*** I looked down and saw my skirt there. She had put glue on my seat. I fell for it. Phoebe began to laugh so hard. "You fell for it!" She screamed laughing so hard. I ran out of there. My face was sweaty, and I couldn't believe this. I wanted Caleb.
-Caleb's POV-
Ugh! Kingsland sucks! Just because my last name is Kings, people think I own the land. I miss Oakville; I missed Katrina! I walked into the house. I'm fourteen now, and Katrina is twelve, I never forget her birthday. Then I walked upstairs and got on my laptop, and went to Facebook. Katrina was on! I messaged her
"Hey Katrina! Has it gotten better with the six bees?"
I typed. Suddenly Katrina replied:
"Like hell it is, Phoebe poured freaking glue on the lunch seat, asked me to sit, and I stupidly fell for it like the stupid girl I am."
I was shocked when I read that.
"You're not stupid Katrina."
Suddenly my mom walked in, angry as hell. She threw my favorite snow globe at the wall. I stared at her, my eyes burning with hatred. Katrina give me that snow globe. I lost it finally. "STOP! WHEN YOU GOT KNOCKED UP LIKE THE SKANK YOU ARE, DID YOU HATE ME?! AM I A MISTAKE?! YOU'RE ALWAYS SAYING HOW MUCH YOU HATE ME. WELL GUESS WHAT?! I HATE YOU BACK! STAY OUT OF MY GODDAMN LIFE!" I screamed. Her face softened, as her eyes filled with tears. "I SAID LEAVE!" I yelled. She walked out of my room, crying silently. I slammed the door, grabbed a bag, tossed my laptop, phone, clothes, water, candy, everything I need to survive. I opened my window and jumped out. I pulled my phone out once I hit the ground, and called Katrina. "Katrina I'm going back to Oakville." I said. And after I hung up, I began to walk.
-Katrina's POV-
I stared at my hands, because Caleb was lying to me. He's not coming back. I know it. I sighed, and then my mom burst in. "Sweetheart? Has Caleb called you?" She asked worriedly. I shook my head. Lie for Lie. "He.. He packed his things. He's running away. Nobody knows where he is." She said sadly. I stared. No way.. I began to sob in my arms. How could Caleb run away? I was sobbing, when I got a facebook message. It was from Caleb. He had said "I can't survive out here without you. That's why I'm coming back." I closed my laptop and tried my best not to break down. My mother walked out and I sighed. Took a deep breath and wrote down in my notebook, "Revenge on Phoebe."
-Caleb's POV-
I walked into the woods, it was eight thirty four. I began to get hungry. The only thing I had was some Rice Krispies for dinner. I pulled out the stack of bills I had from dog walking, babysitting, etc. I counted it: Two hundred and thirty four dollars in total. I smiled. This was going to be good for me. I stashed my money away in three separate Chapstick bottles. Then I slipped my phone, house key, (just in case), and wallet in a sunscreen bottle. Now it looked like I was just a random kid obsessed with Chapstick and sunscreen. I sighed and thought about Katrina. She was the best thing in my life. I began to wonder how our life would be if we got married, or even kissed once. I did kiss her before, once, after my mom beat me, I told her a big dinosaur put bruises on me. She smiled and had said "Caweb, can I kwiss you goodnight?" She asked. I smiled and nodded. She leaned in and kissed me. It was a short kiss, but it was a kiss. I was thinking when my stomach rumbled. I was hungry as heck! I pulled out my bag of Rice Krispies, and ate half the bag. That was nice. I pulled out my pillow, and my favorite jacket, and fell asleep.
-Katrina's POV-
The next day was my revenge on Phoebe. I smiled and walked into school, wearing the exact same outfit as her. I walked by her, "STOP! WHY ARE YOU COPYING ME YOU COW!?" she screamed in the hallway. I turned. "Oh my gosh you're copying my new style! Weird!" I said and flaunted away. I smirked, and began to walk. That's when I heard my phone go off. I pulled it out.
***ONE FACEBOOK MESSAGE.*** I opened it.
***FROM: CALEB.***
I clicked the message.
"I know you hate me probably, I understand. I can't go back to Oakville Katrina. I think you're in trouble. I wish I could see your cute face again, I was thinking, remember that time you kissed me? That was the day I knew I liked you. Goodbye Katrina. In another life, we could be friends. But I guess, we're just not meant to be." And that was the last contact I heard from Caleb. I texted some mean stuff back, for I was hurt and he asked "Why?" but I never answered.
-Caleb's POV-
I sighed and trudged inside. My mother ran to me and cried in my arms. I was trying my hardest not to break down. "I don't hate you mom." I said with a confident look. I smiled at her and she smiled back. "I love you Caleb Kings." She said. The next few days were great. She took amazing care of me. Then next month, she didn't come home. I clicked on the news. And I was horrified by what they said. "Mrs Katherine Kings was brutally killed in a car accident. Somebody tried to run her off the road. Apparently, there was a young person in the car, driving. We also found this note of evidence:
"I tried to run you off the road. Now maybe Caleb will listen. ~Anonymous"
