As we cautiously stepped into the building, its eerie silence unnerved us. The absence of any signs of life was unsettling, and I exchanged a concerned glance with Glenn. "That's weird," I murmured, and Glenn nodded, his expression mirroring my apprehension.
"Hello?" Rick's voice echoed through the empty corridors, breaking the silence. "Close those doors." A voice calls out, "Watch for walkers." A reminder of the dangers lurking in the shadows. We proceeded cautiously, our senses on high alert, until the sudden click of a gun being cocked jolted us into readiness. Guns raised, we turned towards the sound, only to find a tall man with blonde hair, clad in a grey shirt and black sweatpants, holding a black handgun.
"Anyone infected?" the voice inquired, his tone grave. "One of our group was, he didn't make it," Rick responded solemnly. The man's next words sent a shiver down my spine, "What do you want?" His approach was cautious, each step calculated, and I instinctively took a step back.
The dimly lit room felt suffocating as we all gathered, the tension palpable in the air. The man, a stern figure with a lab coat draped over his shoulders, stood before us like an executioner preparing his tools. "I'm Dr. Jenner, You all submit to a blood test, that's the price of admission," he declared with an unwavering tone. "You got stuff to bring in, you do it now. Once this door closes, it stays closed." His words pierced the air, what did he mean it would stay close, he wouldn't keep us here, would he? I thought to myself when Daryl's voice pulled me back to reality.
"Doctors always go around packing heat like that?" Daryl asks Jenner. "There were plenty left lying around. I familiarized myself. But you look harmless enough. Except you. I'll half to keep my eye on you," Jenner looks at Carl, smiling at him. "Are we underground?" Carol questions. "Are you claustrophobic?" Jenner asks." A little." The middle-aged woman responds. "Try not to think about it. "Vi, bring up the lights in the big room. Welcome to zone 5."
Rick, ever the pragmatic leader, nodded in agreement, his expression betraying no hint of fear. As each of us took our turn in the chair, I couldn't shake the gnawing anxiety clawing at my insides. Needles had always been my nemesis, and the mere thought of having my blood drawn sent shivers down my spine.
I was the last to get my blood drawn, Glenn right before me, "See nothing to worry about Lot, you got this" Glenn said with a reassuring tone in his voice. "Why do you want my blood?" I blurted out, my voice trembling with a mixture of fear and curiosity as I reluctantly settled into the seat across from Dr. Jenner. His response was silence, his focus unwavering as he prepped the equipment. With a deep breath, I closed my eyes, trying to block out the fear that threatened to overwhelm me.
The prick of the needle sent a jolt of discomfort coursing through my veins, and I couldn't suppress a grimace as Dr. Jenner efficiently collected the sample. Minutes stretched into eternity as I endured the ordeal, my heart pounding in my chest with each passing second. Finally, with a sense of relief, Dr. Jenner declared, "All done."
I let out a shaky breath, my hands trembling as I wiped away the cold sweat that had gathered on my brow. "That wasn't so hard, was it?" Dr. Jenner remarked, his tone almost mocking as he addressed me. Reluctantly, I nodded, my gaze darting to Glenn, who stood nearby offering silent support.
Hiding behind Glenn's reassuring presence, I couldn't shake the feeling of unease that lingered like a dark cloud overhead. What did Dr. Jenner need our blood for? And more importantly, what would he do with it once he had it? These questions plagued my mind as we waited anxiously for answers, our fates hanging in the balance.
Once everyone finished with the blood tests, we found ourselves in a room suffused with the warm glow of overhead lights, casting gentle shadows across the wooden tables that lined the space. " We walk through the facility and I start to feel weak, stumbling a little bit, " She, okay?" Jenner asks. "She hasn't eaten in days none of us have." Glenn says.
