Wind swished through the maple trees. The musky smell of moss singed the air. A teen stepped into the forest clearing. He looked at his compass and smiled. "This should be the place," he said to himself. He looked around. "I'm not surprised she comes here a lot. It is really pretty."
He scented the air. His eyes darted back and forth. His ears twitched at the sound of a twig snapping. Oh no, someone is coming! His tail puffed up as he ran back to the den. Gasping for air he slipped to the floor of the den. "That was a close one," a lion cub said next to him unimpressed. The teen rolled his eyes. "Like you could do better. I'm not the top of the class for nothing." The cub got up and checked outside. "We should go back to the school. They might find us."
The teen got up and walked to the den opening. His ice-blue eyes gleamed in the moonlight. The cub walked back to the den wall and disappeared. The teen looked back at the forest longingly. He sighed and crawled through an aperture in the wall and vanished.
