"Take care! Bye, Doctor Brian!"
"You too!"
As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting hues of orange and pink across the sky, Brian Ashford made his way through the city's bustling streets. The day had been long, filled with the usual chaos of the emergency room where he worked as a doctor. Patients came and went, their ailments ranging from the mundane to the life-threatening, but Brian remained steadfast in his duty to heal.
Finally arriving at his modest apartment building, Brian climbed the stairs to his floor, his mind already turning to the project he had been tinkering with for weeks. Pushing open the door to his apartment, he was greeted by the familiar sights and smells of home.
Setting down his bag, Brian made his way to the small workshop he had set up in the corner of his living room. Tools and gadgets were organized on the workbench, evidence of his ceaseless experimentation. But the device at the center of it all captured his attention.
It was a sleek contraption, a mass of wires and circuits housed within a metal casing. Brian had been working on it for months, pouring all his spare time and energy into its creation. And now, finally, it is nearing completion. "Ah! Finally, I can start working on this bad boy. If it weren't for Bubbles giving me power, I would've never been able to make this."
With a determined glint in his eye, Brian set to work. He meticulously adjusted wires and calibrated circuits, his fingers moving deftly over the controls. Hours passed in a blur as he lost himself in his work, the outside world fading away until it was just him and the device.
And then, finally, it was done. With a triumphant grin, Brian laughed to himself softly. "Ah, the sweet feeling of accomplishment." He grinned. This device was no ordinary invention. It was a portal, a gateway to other dimensions, other worlds. He once made a pair of headphones for his younger cousin, Bubbles, that allowed her to travel similarly. "Let's test this baby!"
*Click!
He clicked a button to activate the device, its lights flickering to life with a soft hum. Soon, it started to shake and rattle a bit. "Okay- got to turn this off-" He quickly pressed the button to try and turn off his device, and when that didn't work, he flipped a few switches to lower the power. Unfortunately, the device didn't shut off, so Brian resorted to unplugging its power.
*Blip!*
At first, nothing happened, but everything seemed to stop and become perfectly normal. "Whew! Close call!! Brian chuckled.
*ZRT! BOOM!*
Suddenly, a sudden surge of energy rippled through the room. The portal crackled and shimmered with an otherworldly light, its hum growing louder and more intense. Brian stumbled backward, his heart pounding in his chest as he watched in awe and fear.
Before he could react, the portal erupted into a swirling energy vortex, pulling everything near its center. Furniture toppled over, papers flew through the air, and Brian felt himself being dragged closer and closer to the portal's edge.
"OH GOD!" Desperately, he reached out for anything to anchor himself, but his efforts were in vain. Brian was engulfed by the vortex with a final lurch, his world spiraling into a storm of energy.
Lighting flashed as his clothes changed and flickered into something else entirely. He felt himself spinning and swirling around.
*ZRT!*
*BLIP!*
*POP!*
