Aria's POV
In front of my eyes was darkness, a familiar abyss that seemed to swallow me whole, and there she stood-my mother, her presence as sinister as ever. Her words, dripping with a venomous certainty, slithered into the silence like a serpent poised to strike.
"You have already met your Theseus," she intoned, her voice a haunting echo in the void of my subconscious. "I'm sure you know who he is and what will follow... He will betray you."
"No... No... No..." I murmured, my voice rising with panic as I tossed and turned within the confines of the bed. The sheets twisted around me like shackles, binding me to the terror of my own mind.
"It's okay. You are safe," came a voice, gentle yet firm, cutting through the darkness like a beacon of reassurance. It was Luke, his presence a lifeline in the sea of my turmoil.
Blinking away the remnants of the nightmare, I found myself in the infirmary, surrounded by the sterile scent of antiseptic and the soft glow of bedside lamps. My leg and stomach were swathed in bandages, but the pain that had once gnawed at my senses had dulled to a distant ache.
"Just a nightmare," I breathed out, willing my racing heart to slow its frantic tempo.
Luke watched me with concern, his eyes searching mine for answers. "Are you sure?" he asked gently, his voice laced with worry.
I hesitated, grappling with the fragments of my shattered reality. "My mother," I finally admitted, the bitterness of the word leaving a bitter taste on my tongue. "She appeared, offering help after the Cyclops attack. But... how did he actually get in?"
Luke's expression grew somber as he recounted the events that had transpired during my unconsciousness. "Someone called the Cyclops from inside. Chiron is still trying to piece together the puzzle."
"Oh gods," I murmured, a knot of apprehension tightening in my chest. The revelation that someone within the camp had betrayed us filled me with a sense of unease unlike any I had ever experienced.
"What... What did your mother want?" Luke's inquiry cut through the swirling maelstrom of my thoughts, drawing my attention back to the present.
"I don't know," I admitted, the bitterness of betrayal still fresh upon my tongue. "After all the lies she told me, there was no way I could believe her."
"And what did he tell you?" Luke pressed gently, his gaze searching mine for answers.
"It doesn't matter," I deflected, the weight of my own deception heavy upon me. I couldn't bring myself to confess the fabricated truths Nemesis had woven in her attempt to manipulate me. To admit to Luke that I doubted the authenticity of her words would be to shatter the fragile trust that bound us together.
"You saw her in your nightmare, didn't you?" Luke's voice softened with empathy, his understanding a balm to the wounds of my fractured psyche.
I nodded wordlessly, unable to find the words to express the depth of my turmoil. In Luke's eyes, I found solace, a beacon of unwavering support amidst the chaos that threatened to consume me.
"How long have I been here?" I redirected the conversation, eager to escape the suffocating grasp of my own thoughts.
"Three days," Luke replied, a small smile tugging at the corners of his lips. "You've missed quite a bit. Percy, the son of Poseidon, went on a quest with Annabeth and Grover."
A laugh bubbled up from within me, dispelling the lingering shadows of fear and doubt. "You must be joking," I chuckled, incredulous at the absurdity of the situation. "I suppose I should refrain from embarking on such misadventures alone in the future."
"Never again," Luke agreed, his smile widening into a grin that mirrored my own.
"How soon will I be able to return?" I inquired, eager to reclaim the sense of normalcy that had been shattered by the events of the past few days.
"Your leg isn't broken, so in a few days, you'll be back on your feet," Luke assured me, his confidence bolstering my own resolve.
Author's notes
Hello again! I'm very sorry for not posting a new part for over a month! I was busy (in love to be exact). I will try these days to finish the next part as well. To be honest, I'm a bit stuck because I have tons of ideas, but before I get to them I have to go through at least a few more parts. Anyway, I'll make it (I hope). I love you so much and I'm really glad that someone is reading my idea at all. Many kisses. See you soon!
