Piper

My mom always taught me to be independent. We were loaded, alright. But that's what my mom raised me as: an independent woman. So that's why I applied to Sweetea Café, and currently wiping of spilled coffee and specks of sugar and creamer on a table.

Once I finished from wiping the table, I went back to the counter and waited for a customer to arrive. It was Wednesday afternoon, and people don't often come by on afternoons. I was feeling extra lazy and I just wanted to go home.

I was working because I wanted some money to spend on myself. I didn't like it when my parents spent money on me. Even on school fees. Makes me feel like a prostitute.

The wind chimes that hung on the café door jingled and I saw a group of boys laughing rather loudly. Do these boys not know the meaning of 'etiquette' or 'class'? They sat on a booth and people were giving them glares because of the commotion they're making.

"Piper, please get Booth 8." My boss, Alexandria, said.

"Really, Alex?" I groaned.

Alex just laughed at me. Alexandria was a chill boss. Never demanded, plus she helps me on my homework sometimes, especially in Calculus. Sweet, right?

I proceeded to Booth 8 and took out a pen and paper, I sighed and forced a smile.

"Welcome to Sweetea Café. May I take your order?"

"I'll take you, please." The guy with on-fleek eyebrows smirked. I tried not to glare at him. I wanted to shave off his eyebrows.

"And oh, take out." The one with captivating blue eyes joined in.

"Sir, we do not tolerate such behavior. You are all causing so much commotion. If you're not going to order anything, please just get out of the café and never return." I remarked.

"She's right guys, we should just order something." The laid back guy said to the rest of the group.

He was attractive. Not bad for a guy who has friends who are assholes.

"Cam, you're such a killjoy." The on-fleek-eyebrows guy said.

"I'll take a blueberry muffin and hot chocolate please." The blue-eyed boy said and smiled.

Like that changes the fact that you were rude.

"Same, but add whip cream and cinnamon on the hot chocolate." Attractive guy said.

"I'm still ordering you." The on-fleek-eyebrows makes me want to slap him so hard and bang his head on the table.

"All orders coming up in eight minutes. Except yours. I'm taken." I sashayed away from the group and heard a bunch of "oohs" from them.

Minutes passed and I served their orders and I noticed the attractive guy staring at me. I avoided his gaze and settled down all the food and drinks on the table.

"That's all of it." I walked away again and sat on the chair on the counter.

"Hey, there's someone staring at you." Alex said while wiping the counter.

"Huh?" "That guy in white. Booth 8." I looked at Booth 8 and saw that the attractive guy was looking at me.

"Whatever. He's not that attractive." I looked away and hummed a song.

They gestured me for the bill and they left me sixty cents as a tip.

My shift finished at eight o'clock and I helped Alex clean up the whole place.

"Bye, Alex. See you on Friday." I went out of the café, tugging my jacket.

It was the last week of May which means it's almost our summer break, but tonight was a very chilly night. Fall and Winter are my favorite seasons. Just 'cause I have allergies and pollens and I don't mix well. So let's just say I hate spring.

I was walking in a dark street with only a few lamp streets working when I suddenly felt someone walking behind me.

I grew nervous and my pace quickened. Suddenly, a hand grabbed my arm and I instantly punched them on the face.

"Ouch!" The attractive guy from the café was the one following me. And now he's clutching his cheek.

"What the hell?"

"Well, hello to you, too." He deadpanned.

"What do you want?" I took three steps back from him.

"Would you run away if I said 'you'?" He smirked, still holding his cheek.

"Would you chase me if I said 'no'?" I crossed my arms over my chest.

He took one step towards me, still smirking, "Not a chance."
