So sorry about this, but certain things had to be done to fix logistics of the story and all... the re-Edited portion is at the very end, so you won't have to reread the ENTIRE chapter again...

Kara POV

I hear the doorbell ring and I brace myself as I walk to the door. Max is coming over to work on our philosophy assignment. Even though it's not a big deal, it's the first time I've ever had a boy over from school who isn't one of my best friends.

I've already asked my mom not to do or say anything humiliating or embarrassing. Basically to keep her words to Max at a minimum. I don't want to take my chances.

This should be interesting.

Taking a deep breath, I open the door to find Max looking at me expectantly with those blue-green eyes of his. He's wearing a jacket, a dark grey hoodie, with the hood on, and soccer pants.

Damn he looks good.

I suddenly feel self-conscious in my brother's oversized hoodie, black leggings and roots socks. Hey, it's still March, it's still cold. Don't judge me these are my comfy clothes.

"Hey," I say breathing in little.

"Hi," he replies. There's a pause and he raises his eyebrows at me.

"Oh sorry," I say, stepping aside and opening the door more. He just smirks, walks inside and takes his hood off. 'Smooth Kara, real smooth,' I internally roll my eyes and head towards the kitchen, where my mom is making pizza.

"Mom, this is Max Dylan." Why did I say his last name? I gesture towards him and she nods and smiles, "Nice to meet you young man. I would shake your hand but.." She trails off and holds up her flour-covered hands.

Max laughs, "Pleased to meet you too Mrs. Jackson."

My mom pauses her work of rolling the dough and looks up again, "You have such a beautiful face, has anyone ever told you that?"

Earth swallow me whole... Like, now.

Way to keep it cool mom. Just when I thought we were all clear. Round of applause for my mother. She manages to make awkward situations all the more awkward. And she was on such a roll of not saying anything embarrassing too. (Get it? A roll? She's rolling dough? *shakes head* Never mind)

He blushes, "Well I was going more for handsome, but beautiful works too," he grins causing my mom to laugh.

Great, so we've exchanged pleasantries, and got past the really awkward parts, courtesy of my mother, so now it's time to work. "Mom, can we use the dining room?" Trying to find an excuse to leave.

"Go on ahead, just don't mess it up too much," She says painting on the tomato sauce. That's what I asked her to do, but nope. "Ok great, thanks!"

I point towards the dining room, following behind Max, slowing to glare at my mother while she's looking down. She looks up at me, mischief tinting her eyes, and I shake my head at her.

We take a seat at the dining table, a chocolate brown table with eight seats. We don't use it that often, only when people come over for dinner or something. I sit across from Max, as he takes out his books causing me to realize that my laptop is upstairs.

"I have to go grab my laptop, and I have to pee, and I have no idea why I just told you that. I- I'll, be right back."

"Okay," he says, his eyebrows raised in amusement.
