My room was still dark as I was rudely awoken, not by my alarm clock as usual, but by the wailing of my newborn brother Henry.

He was only born just under a week ago and I was already getting rather annoyed by his constant crying and screaming. I was not a fan of babies. Loud, smelly, annoying little creatures.

I flicked my lamp on and looked to my left at the large dolphin clock sat on my wall, it read 2.46am. I rolled out of bed, slipped on my fluffy slippers and padded along to my brothers room.

I instantly regretted not putting a hoody on as I entered the corridor. The cold air was a shock to my body after coming from my cosy room, I always had my radiator on at a ridiculously high temperature, much to the displeasure of my mother.

We aren't a poor family, in fact we're quite rich, but she still nags about how we would "soon be poor if the heating bill doesn't come down". I refused to listen though.

I opened the door to baby Henry's room and the crying got louder. I cringed. It was such a horrible sound. I walked over to his crib sat in the middle of the room and picked him up. He was still crying.

"Hey what's wrong buddy" I whispered, whilst slightly rocking him in my arms. He looked up at me and momentarily stopped crying. He made a weird gargling noise, probably trying to speak and failing.
"Are you gonna go back to sleep now" i asked, still whispering, whilst placing him back down in his crib and throwing his blanket back over him. That was easier than expected. I looked at him once more, his face only visible by the small amount of light from the corridor.

I turned around and gasped, my older brother Ryan was stood at the door with his arms crossed over his bare chest. His messy pitch black hair was a contrast to his usually perfectly slicked back hair. His blue eyes were only just visible in the poor lighting.

"Jesus Christ Ry are you trying to send me into cardiac arrest" I whisper-shouted across the room whilst holding a hand to my chest.

"Sorry, I heard Henry crying" he said, chuckling at me "I thought you said you didn't like babies."

"I don't, but I can't sleep if he keeps crying" I reply and walk towards where he is at the doorway.

"Fair enough" he says and walks passed me towards Henrys crib, he leans forward and places a quick kiss on Henrys head before turning around and following me out of the room.

I started walking down the corridor passed my sisters rooms towards my bedroom, Ryan was a few paces behind me as his room is opposite mine.

I stop suddenly and turn around causing Ryan to stop In his tracks. I signal him not to talk by placing my finger to my lips. He looks at me obviously confused.

I place a finger to my ear and then point down the corridor signalling that I heard something, he catches on and turns around staying silent.

We wait a few seconds before another noise makes its way up to us from downstairs. Footsteps. He turns his head to look at me and nods.

I quickly walk to my room, staying as silent as possible and Ryan follows, I open my door and slip in heading straight for my bed. I crouch down and feel around underneath until my hand hits a box. I grab it and pull it out.

The grey box has our family crest on it. I rip off the lid and in it are my two Pistols. I hand one to Ryan and shove one in my pyjama shorts making sure the safety catch is still on. I shove the box on my bed and grab the pistol from my shorts whilst following Ryan out of the room.

We both start tip toeing towards the stairs which lead into the foyer below, I hadn't determined where the footsteps were coming from yet. The slight sound of a filing cabinet draw moving tells me that they are possibly in the study but I can't be sure.
