Taylor stood in front of the mirror, her fingers grazing over the soft fabric of her favorite sweater as she took it off. She was getting ready for bed, but as she undid the clasp of her lacy bra and removed it, her hand brushed against something unfamiliar on her breast. A lump. She froze, her heart pounding in her chest. Fear gripped her, but she quickly pushed it away. It was probably nothing, she reasoned. Just a harmless cyst or swollen gland. Nothing to worry about it, let alone inform Travis of her discovery.
Ignoring the nagging worry, Taylor continued with her day, pushing the lump to the back of her mind. But as the days turned into weeks, the lump grew more prominent and increasingly sore. Still, she kept her silence, not wanting to burden Travis with her fears.
One evening, as they relaxed together on the couch, Travis noticed Taylor wincing slightly as she adjusted her position.
"Are you okay, babe?" he asked, concern lacing his voice.
Taylor forced a smile, brushing off his concern. "Yeah, just a little sore from tour practice, that's all."
Travis studied her for a moment, his brow furrowing in worry, but he let it go, trusting her to tell him if something was wrong.
Weeks passed, and the lump continued to grow, casting a shadow over Taylor's thoughts. She couldn't escape the fear gnawing at her insides, but she couldn't bring herself to voice her fears to Travis. She didn't want to worry him, didn't want to burden him with her problems.
One morning, as they shared a quiet moment in the shower, Travis gently washed Taylor's back, his touch tender and reassuring. But as his hands moved over her chest, he felt it. The lump.
His movements stilled, his breath catching in his throat as panic surged through him. "Taylor, what's this?" he asked, his voice barely above a whisper.
Taylor's heart plummeted as she realized she could no longer hide the truth from him. Tears welled in her eyes as she turned to face him, her voice trembling as she spoke. "I found it a while ago...I thought it would go away, but it's only gotten worse."
Travis's arms wrapped around her, holding her close as she broke down in his embrace. "Why didn't you tell me?" he murmured, his voice filled with pain.
"I didn't want to worry you," Taylor whispered, her words choked with tears. "I didn't want to deal with it myself, and telling you would make it seem all that more real".
Travis's expression softened, his fingers gently wiping away Taylor's tears. "I understand, but we can't ignore this, Taylor," he said firmly. "We need to get it checked out because it IS real, and the sooner we get some answers the better off things will be honey".
Travis held her tighter, his own emotions threatening to overwhelm him. "But you don't and will never have to face it alone, Taylor. We're in this together."
—————
The weight of the impending appointment hung heavy in the air as Taylor and Travis sat in the waiting room of the doctor's office. Taylor's leg bounced nervously, her hands fidgeting in her lap as she tried to push away the overwhelming fear threatening to consume her.Travis sat beside her, his presence a steady anchor in the storm raging inside her. He reached for her hand, his grip firm yet reassuring as he offered her a small smile. "We're in this together, Tay," he murmured, his voice soft with reassurance.
Taylor forced a shaky smile in return, grateful for his unwavering support. But beneath the facade, her heart pounded with fear and uncertainty. What if it was something serious? What if she couldn't handle it?
