TW // Abuse (towards Taylor's 17 yo daughter Thea)
—————
Sunlight streamed through Thea's bedroom window, catching dust motes in a playful dance. Laughter filled the air as Jake's voice, warm and inviting, drifted in from the hallway. Thea peeked out to see him holding a bouquet of lilies, their heads nodding like cheerful greetings."Hey, beautiful," he said, a mischievous glint in his eyes. "Ready to escape the pre-concert chaos?"
Thea's heart did a happy little flip. Since their first date 3 months ago, Jake had been a whirlwind of thoughtful gestures and genuine kindness. He wasn't fazed by her famous mom, Taylor, the pop superstar, or the throngs of paparazzi that followed them. He treated Thea like Thea, a shy but sweet seventeen-year-old with a love for classic novels and a voice that could rival her mother's (though Thea would never admit it).
"Those are gorgeous," she said, taking the lilies with a shy smile. "Where did you even find them this early in the morning?"
"Secret admirer things," Jake winked, pulling her into a hug that felt like coming home. "Now, let's get out of here before your mom starts her pre-show jitters."
The concert that night was electric. Taylor belted out her hits with a fierceness that never failed to amaze Thea. Watching her mother command the stage, a million lights reflecting in her eyes, Thea felt a familiar pang of pride. But tonight, something felt different. Taylor's gaze seemed to linger on Thea a little longer, her smile tinged with a slight worry Thea couldn't quite decipher. No one else would've noticed the change in her expressions, but Thea could read her Mother like no one else could.
The following months were a blur of stolen moments and whispered secrets with Jake. He held her hand through crowded malls, serenaded her with off-key guitar tunes under her window, and patiently helped her untangle the technicalities of her first foray into songwriting. He was perfect, or so it seemed.
Six months into dating, however, a subtle shift began. Playful banter morphed into teasing criticism of Thea's clothes, her friends, and even her music. Jake's compliments, once freely given, became laced with possessiveness. He started questioning her whereabouts and demanding access to her phone. When she protested, his justifications were smooth and practiced, leaving her feeling confused and somehow at fault.
Fast forward a year into dating. The light had dimmed considerably in Thea's eyes. Her once vibrant laughter was replaced by nervous glances and forced smiles. The lilies, a distant memory, had been replaced by a growing collection of concealer and long-sleeved shirts in the summer heat. Bruises, a sickly purple under the surface of her skin, became a constant unwelcome guest.
One morning, Taylor, helping Thea with her hair after a particularly late 'study session' with Jake, caught a glimpse of a dark mark on Thea's neck. It wasn' t the first time, but this one was too blatant to ignore.
"Thea, honey," Taylor said, her voice gentle but firm. "What happened here?"
Thea flinched, her hand flying to cover the bruise. "Nothing, Mom. Just bumped into something."
Taylor knew better. She'd seen that same defensive posture, heard the same flat denial too many times. Her heart ached for her daughter, the once carefree sparkle in her eyes replaced by a dull fear. This wasn't a clumsy accident; it was a silent plea for help.
"Thea," Taylor said, her voice breaking slightly, "you don't have to lie to me. You're safe here."
Thea's eyes welled up, tears threatening to spill. For the first time in months, the dam holding back the truth seemed to crack. But the fear was still there, a heavy cloak wrapped around her.
However, the breakthrough came today, merely a few days later.
