It wasn't easy for Leilani to face Carter. For some peculiar reason, she kind of didn't want to. The man hadn't spoken to her in days.
Leilani also realized some of the things they had discussed during their relationship weren't being thought about.
Carter had promised to look over Leilani's portfolio to critique it. Leilani really yearned for his input being as though he was the ceo of a multimillion dollar publishing company. He'd turned small town, open mic night poets into bestselling authors.
Leilani looked forward to his feedback to put together her own published words. Yet, she hadn't received any.
Leilani was started to feel different emotions towards Carter. Emotions that were completely opposite than what she felt for him in the beginning of their relationship.
Reverse.
Carter was transforming into something else.
The sad part about their entire "relationship" was that Leilani never expected anything from Carter. At all. Ever.
The breakfast dates, flowers, etc. Leilani appreciated of course, however what she yearned for the most was his input. For him to take the time that he had promised and put it towards her career.
And with those thoughts Leilani decided to take Noelle up on her offer.
With this being super last minute, Leilani had to call out and use a sick day.
They were headed to Washington, D.C. (NOT Miami)
Leilani had ways expressed to Noelle that she wanted to tap more into her blackness. She wanted to learn more about where she came from, what her ancestors endured, what American independence meant for those before her, and...She wanted to experience the night life.
Leilani wasn't surprised that Noelle was okay with changing the trip location. They had both established that scene wasn't for them and it was also out of their budget. They knew better than to touch their college savings.
Once Leilani had successfully used her sick day, she packed her bag and headed to the train station to meet Noelle. They were so ready to enjoy their three day weekend.
Leilani caught up with Noelle at the train station.
"I'm so glad you didn't lose your job after I whacked that wicked woman." Noelle joked.
"Too bad for you, I wish I had." Leilani laughed, nudging Noelle.
The ride was only three hours, so the two of them took turns catching up.
"Honestly, I'm thinking about dating women. I just wanna be young and dumb for a little while, you know?" Noelle ranted on.
"They want me to play house with no title. I'm too young to be someone's "wifey" and not wife."
Leilani nodded in agreement.
"At least you're young and dumb dating in your own age group. I don't know what's wrong with me." Leilani admitted.
Noelle giggled, lightly. But she understood.
"The internship is over in a few weeks." Leilani told Noelle. "Honestly, I don't know about him anymore. Nothing is certain."
Leilani was ready to pack up her feelings and go. Honestly, she was really starting to believe her mother. She was too young for all of this nonsense she had going on with Carter. This was not who she wanted to be. This certainly wasn't the type of man she intended on being with, now that she was starting to consider who Carter was, her role in his life and vice versa.
