I was standing in a huge field as far as the eye could see. The grass was a shade of green I had never seen before, like it was kept just for the heavens. The sun shone down on me I had never noticed the full beauty of the sun until now, it's demanding presence in the sky goes amiss sometimes. Its golden rays of life wrapped themselves around me like I was its child and it was my mother. Was I dead?. Was this heaven? I did not know. I heard a noise coming from behind me, and I spun around to see a huge hill. I looked at the bottom of the hill to see a half naked man, with a little cloth wrapped around his waist. I ran to him,
"Hello" I shouted, "Can you hear me?" the naked man looked at me and then turned away, he walked over to a huge boulder and began to push it up the hill. Was he mad,? The hill was two maybe three hundred feet high. I sat and watched him for a while, not taking my eyes off this man. He was brilliantly shaped, his arms looked like they had been carved out of pure white stone. His long roughed up hair was tied back with a headband and his hands and fingers bore the cuts and bruises from the task he was performing.
After about fourty minutes he was nearly to the top, I stood up. I thought to myself when he gets to the top I shall run and speak to him about this place. I hadn't seen a single soul apart from him. He got to the top and then I heard a loud cry. The boulder had started to slip out of his hands. He tried with all his might to stop the rock from rolling down the hill, but he failed.
I watched as the rock rolled down the hill. The huge man at the top slowly walked down after it. He got to the bottom of the hill and I ran over ."Why do you push that boulder up the hill?" I asked. The man looked me in the eyes and then looked away. "Where are we? Who are you?" I stopped back as he walked behind the boulder and started to push again. "Why wont you answer my questions?"
"I push the rock up this hill to prove a point" He softly said, he then continued to push the boulder
"What are you trying to prove?" I asked
"That I cannot get this boulder to the top of that hill" he moved past me, the beads of swet dripped off his head onto the rock. "That seams like a stupid thing to prove" I retorted
"I do not have time for this, I have to get this rock up that hill to the top" I couldn't make sense of this man. I watched him walk up the hill. I sat on the floor and watched him get right to the top again and again. Each time he got up there, the same thing would happen. The boulder would slip and he would try again.
This went on all through the night and I could not sleep, I could think of nothing but Lilly. I would close my eyes and her dead face attacked all my senses. At around midnight, I heard the man shout "Why don't you talk to the boy" I shot up, and looked at him he was so far up the hill, I could just about make out him in the moonlight.
"What boy?"
"He probably means me" a voice said from behind me. i spun around to see a very pale faced young boy, he was no more than ten or eleven.
"Who are you?" I asked.
"A friend" he replied. I noticed that he has bite marks on his hand, I wanted to ask him about them but decided not too.
"Walk with me Charles" He turned around and walked into the darkness before I had a chance to speak. I got up swiftly and followed him. He walked with his hands behind his back, for such a small person he took big confident strides.
"How have you found this place, has it been to your liking?" the boy asked me. I went to say something, but the boy interupted me "How did you find the sun?"
"The sun?" I said, I was confused. He knew this also.
"The thing in the sky-"
"I know what the sun is, why are you talking about the sun, who are you?" I rudely blasted at him.
