Galen's POV:
His heartbeat resounded in his chest as he looked around in the poorly lit cell, his senses alert for any sign of danger. Air was heavy with damp, musty stones. The flickering of the torchlight gave eerie shadows on the wall. Galen took cautious steps to the crack in the stone wall. His hooves whispered softly against the cold floor.
But as he drew closer to the crack, something in the floor shifted ever so slightly-a slight depression in the stone speaking of something hidden beneath. Heeding screaming instincts, Galen leaped backward just in time, barely avoiding a pressure plate concealed beneath his hooves.
With a soft click, the pressure plate depressed beneath his feet, sending the mechanism whirring and the floor dropping away to reveal a hidden pit opening before Galen. There was barely enough time for him to react as a gaping chasm yawned open at his feet with its dark depths.
But Galen would not be defeated so easily. With a mighty leap, he shoved himself from the edge of the pit, his muscles straining with all their might against the force of gravity. With an grace born of desperation, he landed safely on the far side, his heart racing with adrenaline at the realization of just how close he had come to disaster.
Carefully approaching the crack, highly aware of any threat that might leap out at him, Galen came upon yet another barrier: a tripwire across the doorway, pulled taut and nearly invisible in that manipulated darkness.
Galen stopped, his heart racing while he eyed options. Any mistake would lead to disaster, and he had this nagging feeling that, if he was going to get out unscathed from the mess, he needed to tread very carefully.
Galen gently raised his foot to test the tautness of the tripwire. He could feel the muscles bunched as he felt the strength in the wire. It was like a tightrope act, incalculably delicate and demanding utmost precision.
With a flick of his great hoof, Galen severed the tripwire. A shower of glowing glowing-like sparks lit the air. And he stood waiting then-poised, frozen, his breath held in anticipation-but nothing happened.
Holding a deep sigh of relief, onward he pushed, undeterred by fatigue or misfortune. He knew then that the road ahead led him to freedom, and there was no going back.
Thus, with each obstacle overcome, Galen was closer to his goal. Cunning would the traps be, but by hook or crook, he was determined to outwit them and pick his lord from the clutches of Asher, that ice-hearted mafia boss.
