Chapter Twenty Two: Sakura's P.O.V.

After breakfast, the four of us headed into the woods behind Tazuna-san's home.

My braided hair swayed gently in the breeze, and my regular old training outfit seemed too light then for the Kirigakure chill. But I'd trained in far worse conditions, so I would live.

"Okay, guys, listen up. I'm going to teach you how to use chakra." Kakashi Sensei smiled under his mask.

Naruto blinked in cluelessness. "Huh?"

Kakashi stared at him. "You... You do know what chakra is, right?"

Naruto shook his head.

I sighed. "Naruto, didn't you learn this at the Academy?"

He scratched the back of his head sheepishly. "Hehe, I -uh- always slept during class, dattebayo."

Kakashi Sensei brought a hand up to his face, muttering about lazy students (as if he could talk). "Sakura, explain please."

I nodded. I may have only learned what chakra was called six months ago, but I'd been doing the process of it for years. I launched into the explanation Iruka Sensei had given.

"Simply put, chakra is the energy a Shinobi needs when performing a jutsu. That energy has two parts. The body energy in each of the billions of your cells, and the spiritual energy gained through training, combat, and other similar experiences. These two parts are combined, so by bringing out and releasing chakra, you can use a Justu. This is done by the hand seals we perform," I finished, demonstrating a hand sign that he used to create his shadow clones so he would be familiar.

"Uhh... I didn't understand that. But isn't chakra what we use to do Jutsu?"

I facepalmed. It wasn't like I had just told him that.

Kakashi Sensei looked astounded at Naruto's density. Naruto recognized that look, and he frowned.

"What I meant was, can't we already use chakra? Why do we need to learn that again?"

Sasuke spoke for the first time today. "Yeah, Naruto's right. We can already use chakra."

I hid a smile. You think you can, I thought.

Kakashi Sensei gave me a knowing look before turning to the other two. "You can, yes. But you're not using it properly. Neither of you know how to control your chakra. Even if you can use it, unless you control it properly, your Jutsus will be weakened, or not work at all. And by wasting energy, not only will you tire in a fight more easily, but weaknesses will start to appear more frequently.

"Which is what today's exercise is about," he gave us a sly grin from under his mask. "We are going to... climb a tree!" He announced proudly.

The three of us stared at him, silently thinking the exact same thing. What?

My chakra control exercises with my father usually consisted of burning things, breaking things, and healing things.
