SLIPPING THROUGH MY FINGERS

・゚ TWENTY FIVE

CRISTINA sat in the kitchen of her childhood home, her parents getting ready to leave the house and head to their friend's annual Christmas party.

" You sure you don't want to come?", her mother asked, " You and Sam are invited every year".

" No, it's okay. You guys have fun", Cristina smiled.

They sent her a nod, saying goodbye before exiting the house. Samantha came running down, Cristina eyeing her weirdly.

" Cris, will you drive me to a boys house?".

Cristina laughed, " What! Is he cute? If he isn't cute, then no".

Samantha smiled, " He's cute, trust me. Please, he only lives five minutes away".

The younger girl begged her sister, Cristina finally giving in as they walked out to their mom's car to take.

" Text me when you want me to come get you", the brunette said as they drove down the street, " Mom and dad won't be home until later, so you've got lots of time".

Samantha nodded as they pulled into the driveway, " Thanks so much, Cris. Love you!".

" Love you too", she laughed.

Cristina drove herself home, stopping to pick up some Chinese food before turning down her street. The Hughes house had the lights on outside, the three boys obviously just getting home from somewhere.

Jack waved her car down, the girl mentally cursing at herself before slowing down and putting her window down as well.

" Sup, Cris", Jack smiled.

" Nothing, really. Just getting dinner, everyone's out so",

Quinn chuckled, " You can come hangout with us?".

Cristina looked behind them, Luke staring awkwardly at the girl. Jack and Quinn looked back as well, the middle child pressing his lips into a thin line.

" It's ok, thanks though".

" Yeah, well, see you for the early Christmas dinner tomorrow night?", Jack said.

She nodded, " You know it. Make sure you don't let Quinn make the mashed potatoes. They were chunky last year".

" What! They were not chunky! They were amazing", Quinn argued.

Jack scoffed, " They were disgusting".

Cristina smiled, " Always room for improvement, Quinn. See you guys".

They waved, the girl quickly driving off and turning into her driveway. Even though the houses were four doors down and on opposite sides of the street, you could still see one another if you were in the driveways.

Cristina looked back at the house, Luke still standing there. She didn't even smile, just going inside and shutting off all the lights behind her.
