It is with great joy that I can now, after over a decade of planning and writing and rewriting and planning and giving up and taking up the pen again, welcome you, dear readers, to a project that is very close to my heart. Some who stumble over it may even remember the main character, Sinaru. He's gone through many changes over the years. Many fellow writers among you will probably know the feeling of that one character who just claws themself into your brain. Sinaru's that one character for me.

He's depressed, he is traumatized, he never felt powerful enough to do what's right, he was stripped of all true self-confidence when he was five years old, he lived through almost two decades of complex childhood trauma, he is an asshole and a softy, but he hides it well, even from himself. Being soft would've killed him decades ago. You can probably imagine how well that experience serves him under Lazalantin's roof: that man lives and breathes to draw out people's soft sides. This will totally end well for both of them.

On that note, it is important to give warning where it's due because there's some heavy stuff happening in this story. Sensitive topics include, but are not limited to:

✸ blood

✸ death

✸ depression

✸ drug addiction

✸ emotional manipulation

✸ panic attacks

✸ PTSD

✸ suicide attempt(s)

I will include a warning in any chapter where a potentially triggering event is happening. If you catch something I didn't think about, don't hesitate to shoot me a message, so I can add warnings here and in the respective chapter. I can, however, assure you that I am not including sexual assault of any kind as I don't feel equipped to cover that subject.

Also, this book may walk a thin line between religious zealotry and racism. I try to keep a wide berth around racism in my fantasy world, because, come on, I am a white European. Need I say more? So if you catch moments where that line is crossed in a harmful way (which will probably happen, because, again, white European) and could be handled better, also shoot me a message. Especially if you feel like Sinaru's people suddenly start to feel like a Jew analogy, which is honestly my biggest concern and definitely not intended. Few things tick me off like antisemitism.

Now all that is left to say is: I am looking forward to your reactions while reading along with Sinaru's reckless and infuriating decision-making. I can't wait for you to roast him. Just not on a stake, maybe. He's sensitive about that.

Launch: Friday, April 12 2024, 8pm (CEST)

Additional note on AI: I acknowledge and share many concerns surrounding the uncontrolled use of AI, as this can rob artists and writers of job opportunities and money. Writers' rooms are scaled down already, Netflix uses AI for background art. While the responsible use of AI by artists or writers-for inspiration purposes or to make said background work easier for comic artists for example-offers opportunities, the programs need to be trained on art that has been fed to them with the artists' consent. Thus I only ever use DALL-E 3, which is still far from perfect (still stolen artworks), but offers compensation when you recognize your work(s)/style. If I ever make any money off this writing thing, though? Bye, AI. Hello commissions. (Also bye money, but that's the point isn't it.)
