Chapter 4

                                                                        "The Iron Hand"

Thud! Large weights slam down onto the ground it weighing far more than any normal human could lift John screams out and hive-fives Hawk he paces a few more times stands in front of the weight gripping it tightly and with a single heave deadlifts the weight he nods then drops the weight Thud! he wobbles over to a bench and sits down on it "you smashed it out today bro" john looks at hawk whos bringing a bottle of water over "new PB.. but I think I'm tapped out for a bit man" hawk slaps him on the back "nah I bet you can do one more don't be a wuss" john smiles and nods "not today were out of time" john points up to the clock above the deadlift platform hawk takes a deep breath in "well that sucks. I know you gotta work" the two begin to rerack the weights. they exit the gym into a empty street bar a patrol car that drives slowly by with its lights flashing "Enforcing the curfew aye John" Hawk chuckles slightly "6pm every night this block gets shut down" Hawk shrugs "You know ive been here 100s of times and i never asked why" john nods "demon actively. some egg head started a whole rift when i was younger.. that was a bad day" hawk rubs his chin and points at john "that would mean smaller rifts still open right" john simply nods then places a hand onto hawks chest stopping both them "that ally" john marches forward with hawk quickly trailing behind they turn into a dirty run down the ally and see a man standing over a motionless woman he stands tall and shouts "get ya little shits" the lanky man begins marching over to the two hawk grabs johns shoulder "i got this one bro" he cracks hes knuckles and strides foward the lanky man shoves hes hands foward to push hawk hes hands simply glide threw hawk making him lose hes footing and falling over onto hes hands hawk laughs at the man the lanky man lurnchs up and throws a massive haymaker hawk chuckles and begins to deform until a sudden shock shoots threw hes whole body shifting him back into hes regualer form the punch lands clean and sends hawk reeling backwards he holds onto hes jaw looks up at the lanky man notices small amounts of elcitcatiy jumping between hes fingers what the hell is all that gose throw hawks mind the lanky man surges foward to attack hawk once again with a charged fist Crack! John fist smashes into the side of the man's head dropping him motionless onto the ground "You ok bro" John asks while helping Hawk to hes feet hawk nods then pulls out his phone and calls the police "imma check the woman" john states as he walks over to the woman laying unconscious he checks he pluse and still feels a weak heartbeat he sighs with relief not long later the same patrol car they saw earlier arrives two large men step out the shorter of the two calls out "John you been busy this week" he chuckles john nods while carrying the woman with one hand "you know how it is a new one every minute" the police officer laughs and points at the man laying on the floor "whats this ones story" john lays the woman down next to the other officer and takes in a breagth "she will need some medical attention and him" john rubs hes chin "he uses Electrokinesis i would say a level five" the shorter officer nods walks behind hes car and pops the boot and pulls out a light blue shackle and cuffs the unconscious man "these cuffs should asborbe a level tens output so no problem on this bum" the large offficer hoist him up onto hes shoulders and throws him into the back of the car he shuts the door and shakes johns hand "keep up the good work son" john simply nods.

The two reach the burger joint where John works "Well I will see you tomorrow" Hawk flatly states "You okay?" John places his large hand on Hawk's shoulder hawk sighs "I've.." he pauses his body becomes tense "That was the first time I've felt pain." John can not hide his shocked expression he gasps out a weak laugh "what?" before Hawk takes a step back "I've never been hit before I've always been able to shift out of the way... Hell i haven't even scraped my knee" john begins to laugh loudly holding his belly "so you are human after all" he slaps hawks back "bro pain is apart of life. only titan wouldn't feel that but between me and you i think he was built in a lab somewhere" hawk chuckles "ya know mum thinks the same thing" john pulls hawk into a quick hug "i gotta work but man i get it. it sucks but the bright side now you know not to go out into a thunderstorm" hawk starts chuckling "na i will just use your body as shield" john smiles "anytime brother" he then quickly rush's into the burger reds hawk begins to lollygaging down the street pulling out his phone he sees hes messages are unread by rose he sighs and feels a tightness in hes chest worse then the zap and punch from the lanky man as if hes very engery is beging to waine all he can think to himself is anger towards that nerdy guy shes been hanging out with maybe he thinks i can scare him off get in hes face maybe shove him its not like he has any powers of hes own the thought is cut short when he walks into a homeless man "hey watch it man" hawk stares the man down half his hight the man looks like a child combared to hawk the sleince between the two is intese hawk breaks it with a smile and rubs the back of hes head "sorry ive been distacted got lady problems" the man shakes his head "oh boy ive been their" he taps hwaks arm a few times as he moves around the teen and carries on "good luck kid" the man almost shouts as he walks into a nearby ally. this city has strange people is all the hawk thinks and carries on his way.

A new dawn brings a new day or hawk thinks as he's staring out his window watching the sun rise the moment the light touches his face he feels a new-found energy wash over him slow at frist but rushing after a few moments basking in the early light the same routine he never seems to find the energy to stay up late unless he's with his friends until the sun rises then bursting at the seems mum just calls me a morning person like dad hawk thinks to himself and a minute later he speeds through his morning routine launching out into the street once again the tightness of his chest constricts even tighter before seeing as rose is no where to be seen and she has never been late in a instent a rage begins to swell within the tightness imma deck him the moment i see the pipsqueak is the only thought running threw his head as he storms off to school as hawk barges through the iron school gates the tightness begins to loosen and the anger seems to fade "Boo!" short arms wrap around from behind hawk pulling him into a tight hug a small smile creaks its way onto hes face he truns around gives the little munchunk a quick hug "you spooked me mia" hawk retorts with a half smark she lets go of him "well you never pick up the phone" she says with a huff hawk scrachs hes head "mia im pretty sure you cant use your phone at home.." she punchs him lightly "dont mean you cant knock on my door" hawk pounders for a second "your dad hates me" mia places a finger onto her chin as if she was thinking "and if that alone stoped men humans would of died off by now" this brings a bigger grin onto hawks face "are we like that now are we" mia puffs her cheeks out and points at him "in your dreams!" she cracks a smile "in fact i have a deal for you." she pauses as if to add shapase to her squrky words "I just happen to know this rich family who brought me two tickets to a rock concent tonight" she flips out two tickets from the pocket of her dersiner jeans droping them she dives to the ground and flys back to her feet in a instant holding the tickets much firmer then before "all part of the sercect plan" she stats with a large grin hawk chuckles "what plan Mia?" she huffs once again "it wouldnt be a damed sercect if i told you" hawk smiles at her with more warmth then he has felt since rose swaped him out a feeling rouses in him telling him to go with her he places a hand on hes head "im ment to be studying tonight Mia ive missed like two lessions.. i really shouldn't go" mia's smile dims in a flash "oh" is all she can muster to repile but the feeling has become a surge as if every fiber in hes being wants to just spend more time around her "fuck it. its just a test and honestly being around you sounds a million times better" mia squeaks and punchs hawk in the cheast a little to hard "My god you are gonna love it i promise" and without allowing a repile Mia is already rushing to another group of friends within a few seconds all the girls are sqwelling giving glances back to hawk as they wonder the school grounds I will never understand them hawk thinks to himself.The music was loud and far too heavy for Hawk reggae being his choice of music but seeing Mia enjoy herself was a good time after the concert the two found a quiet spot in a nearby parking lot and watched the stars together "Thanks for coming I know rock isn't your thing" the little voice echoed through the parking lot hawk nods a few times "it was fun.." mia begins to chuckle "lying to a girl now hawk?" he shakes his head slowly "not lying today.. just should of hung out with you earlier" mia nods slowly "ok..anyways I've got a job for the group" hawk sits up "A Job? like it pays and everything?" mia giggles slightly "yes its a paying job i have a friend who works on the board of police so they throw jobs to local heroes to deal with crims they don't have the time to" hawk eyebrows rise "mates in high places aye" he elbows mia gently she huffs back "hmp maybe. but its a 2,000 pay day and they dont care if the mark is dead or alive" hawks eyes got wide "for one job?" mia burst into laughter "hawk my god they pay so much more then that.. hell firefly earn almost 40 million last year alone. Titin is worth almost 23 billion. people don't just become heroes because they are nice but it's worth a ton of money. my family hunts demons and we are worth almost 600 million." Hawk shrugs "I never thought about it honestly.. does that mean mum is loaded?" Mia chuckles "Oh yeah she is." Mia stands and stretches and lets out a light moan "Come on hawkie it's past your bedtime" Hawk stands up and nods "Yeah I'm surprised I lasted this long." the two begin to slowly walk "Get the crew together tomorrow we strike!" mia leaps into the air with a closed fist and hawk burst into laughter "hey its cool all the heroes do it" Hawk gently slaps Mia's back "Of course it's awesome." Hawk responds bearly able to hold the laughter back
