A queen, who has two healthy kittens born just a few days ago, goes on a walk by the lake and finds an abandoned fox cub. It's weak, small, and whimpering for food, and looks as if it was just born.
The queen, sympathetic of the tiny creature, brings it back to camp and decides to adopt it despite the protests.
Plot 1: The fox cub was at first looked down on because it wasn't a cat, but it grew to become a strong, feared warrior who had a kind, nervous heart.
Plot 2: The fox cub wants to be a medicine cat, but others don't trust them to save lives. The medicine cat, however, takes them in and teaches them everything.
