the car came to a stop when it was a couple of feet away from the door, "thanks." you turned to look him in his eyes, they were a darker shade of green than usual.
"no problem." he replied, averting his eyes to his hands where he noticed he was gripping the steering wheel so hard his knuckles turned white.
there was a moment of silence as you sat in the passenger seat, like you were expecting something. like something was lingering over  both of your heads, something on the tip of your tongues.

neither of you were brave enough to say it, though.

"bye," you said, opening the car door and stepping out. you weren't even going to wait for his response, but he stopped you by grabbing your wrist as you were already half way out of the car, "wait," he said

"yes?" you fell back into the passenger seat, perking up like a golden retriever to its owner as a sense of anticipation bubbled up in your chest.
"we should go out like this again, just the two of us." he smiled
"i don't think that's a good idea eren." you chewed on your bottom lip
"why? we're friends aren't we, friends can't hang out?" he used your own words against you.

your eyes rolled but your lips were itching to smile, a smile you fought back of course.
"fine, text me or something."

"uh, i have been," he chuckled "i'm still blocked."
" oh sorry, i forgot." no you didn't. you've unblocked him and frantically blocked him again countless times out of fear of him actually messaging you, or the chance that he wouldn't try texting you. that he would never reach out to you, that you were out of his sight and out of his mind

you pulled out your phone and unblocked him then and there, for good.

hopefully.

"alright, done." you say, putting your phone back in your pocket and exiting the car for the second time

"can i come in?" he asks, holding onto the steering wheel and the back of the passenger seat headrest as he leaned over to look up at you
"no." you slammed the car door in his face.

you saw him shake his head and smile through the window, his dimples prominent as he grinned at you.

he watched you walk the the front door of the dormitory hall and only when he saw you safely enter the building did he drive away.

"oh, hey.." she said like she was surprised to see you in your own room, closing the door behind her.

"hi." you greeted cordially, the air was tense, and uncomfortably awkward. to be expected after your dispute earlier that day. you were tempted to just get up and leave, but that'd make things even more awkward when you inevitably saw each other again. she is your roommate after all.

"i wasn't expecting you to be here."

"well i live here."

"yeah," she chuckled awkwardly "i thought you'd be with ren or something."

the sound of his name, especially a nick name coming out of her mouth made you chew on the inside of your cheeks.

"oh, no. he just dropped me off." you replied and she twiddled her thumbs and bit her lip like she was itching to let something out.

swiftly, she sat down on your bed beside your legs. "i'm sorry," she apologized "about earlier, i shouldn't have said all that stuff to you."

"oh-" you said, slightly taken aback. you weren't expecting an apology from her, she seemed like the type to press the issue.

and she was. what you didn't know was that the second he saw you close the door to the dorm hall behind you, he pulled out his phone and called the grey eyed girl.
