Starring AudacityAllie once again as Eira

Eira's blade sang as it clashed against her opponent's, their swords meeting in a dance of death under the pale moonlight that filtered through the crumbling monastery's rafters. Sweat beaded on her brow as she parried blow after blow, seeking an opening to deliver the final strike. Her adversary, once a noble warrior of Greece turned dark by the corrupting influence of evil quickenings, snarled with malice, his eyes alight with an insatiable hunger for power.

"You cannot keep the codex from me forever, Eira," he taunted, his voice dripping with venom. "I will have its secrets, and with them, the power to rule over all Immortals!"

Eira gritted her teeth, refusing to be baited. She had not survived centuries of battle to fall to the likes of him. "The codex was never meant for the hands of those like you, Alexios," she retorted, sidestepping a vicious thrust. "Its knowledge is too dangerous, too corrupting for any one Immortal to possess."

Their blades met again, sparks flying as they pressed against each other in a contest of strength. Alexios leaned in close, his breath hot against Eira's face. "You speak of corruption, yet you cling to the codex like a miser to gold. Tell me, Shield Maiden, what do you fear more? That I will take it from you, or that you will succumb to its temptation yourself?"

Eira shoved him back with a cry of rage, her blade slicing through the air in a savage arc. Alexios laughed as he danced away, the sound echoing off the ancient stones. "You cannot deny the allure of its power, Eira. It calls to you, just as it calls to me."

She shook her head, refusing to acknowledge the kernel of truth in his words. The codex had whispered to her in the long hours of the night, promising answers to questions that had haunted her for centuries. But she had resisted, knowing that to succumb would be to lose herself to the same darkness that had claimed Alexios.

"I am not like you," she declared, her voice ringing with conviction. "I seek the codex's secrets not for power, but for understanding. To know the truth of our existence, of the Game that binds us all."

Alexios scoffed, circling her like a wolf eyeing its prey. "Truth? Understanding? What use are they in the face of immortality? The only truth that matters is the one we make for ourselves, with the edge of our blades and the strength of our will."

Eira's heart clenched at the madness in his words, a stark reminder of how far he had fallen from the man she had once loved. "Is that the truth you made for yourself, Alexios? One of betrayal and callous indifference to the suffering of others? The man I knew would have been ashamed to hear such words from his own lips."

For a moment, something flickered in Alexios' eyes—a shadow of the noble warrior he had once been. But it was gone as quickly as it had appeared, replaced by a sneer of contempt. "The man you knew was weak," he spat. "Too bound by honor and sentiment to seize the power that was rightfully his. I have transcended such limitations, and soon, with the codex in my grasp, I shall transcend death itself."
