Prologue - The Gathering

Thunder rumbled and lightning split the sky on the rain-slicked streets of New York City. They had come from all corners of the globe, drawn by the potent call of the Gathering. It was a time when those remaining immortals left would be drawn to a single place to fight for the prize. From this gathering, two figures stood out—Hannah and Sarah, once known as Helena and Sabina in a distant age. Their eyes met across the sea of Immortals, electric with centuries of history.

There could be only one. All knew this timeless truth. And now, as the Gathering commenced, ancient rivalries would be settled and love would be tested, once and for all...

Part I - Rome

Chapter 1

The Colosseum loomed against the Roman sky, a monumental testament to the empire's power and cruelty. In the shadows of its arches, two figures stood locked in combat—Helena, a noblewoman turned Immortal, and Sabina, a slave whose latent Immortality had been triggered on the blood-soaked sands of the arena.

Swords clashed in a dance of death, the ringing of steel on steel drowned out by the roar of the crowd. Helena's blade moved with aristocratic grace, while Sabina fought with the brutal efficiency of a gladiator. Suddenly, Helena stumbled, her sword clattering to the ground. Sabina held her blade to Helena's throat, both women breathing hard.

"Finish it," Helena whispered. "There can be only one."

Sabina hesitated, something unreadable in her dark eyes. Then she lowered her sword.

"Not today," Sabina said quietly. "Not like this."

She turned and walked away, melting into the shadows of the Colosseum. Helena watched her go, one hand drifting to her throat, as if she could still feel the kiss of Sabina's blade. It was the first time they met, but it would not be the last.

Chapter 2

Weeks turned to months in the eternal city of Rome. Helena and Sabina circled each other like binary stars, drawn together by an inexorable gravity. They met in secret, away from the judgmental eyes of Roman society—in hidden groves and mist-shrouded catacombs, places where they could lower their guard and simply be two women in love.

"What are we doing, Helena?" Sabina asked one night, her head pillowed on Helena's chest. "This...this cannot last."

Helena stroked Sabina's raven hair, a sad smile playing about her lips. "We are Immortal, my heart. We have nothing but time."
